How Silviu Prigoană lost a leg, at the age of 22: “I was dead for 8 minutes”

At the age of 22, businessman Silviu Prigoană, who died on Tuesday, November 12, after suffering a heart attack in a restaurant in Bran, suffered an accident that left him without a leg. He told the whole story, but also the fact that he was clinically dead for 8 minutes.

In an interview in 2007, Silviu Prigoană revealed that he was left without a leg since his youth, at the age of 22, detailing the accident he suffered in 1984.

Born in Gherla, in Cluj county, at that time he was working at the factory in his hometown as a refrigeration technician, when he suffered a work accident.

“A grate broke and I fell into a chipper, which cut my leg. I was dead for 8 minutes. We only have about two years of work and they wanted to give me a pension in case of illness, 500 lei per month. However, I was only on medical leave for three months and I returned”. Silviu Prigoană declared in 2007, for Freedom.

“During the three months I was hospitalized, I underwent three operations, my leg kept getting gangrenous. The doctors still had to cut it out. At the third operation I also experienced clinical death. It took about 8 minutes, as the anesthesiologist told me. They gave me three anesthesias and
they barely resuscitated me”,
the businessman told about the balancing moments in his life.

He put his first prosthesis after about a year and, as he said, “it was a very heavy wooden thing”, which would lead him a few years later to open a prosthetics company, with the idea of ​​helping himself first and foremost.

In 1991, Silviu Prigoană left his hometown for the Capital, where he entered the garbage business.

“I started hauling garbage, then I opened a lot of side businesses, because the market was empty of services,” the story of the businessman, who then had a spectacular rise in several fields of activity.

“If you wanted to make a business card, you didn’t have anywhere, so I had to open a business card company. If you wanted to watch a news TV channel, there was none, so I had to open a news TV, if you wanted to listen to popular music, you had nowhere, so I opened Etno TV”he told about how he built his businesses.

In 1995, Silviu Prigoană also opened the prosthesis center that he had been thinking about for a long time, in Cernica, “with the intention of making prostheses for myself”, investment which he declared cost him at that time almost one million euros.

In his characteristic style, Silviu Prigoană revealed that he had an entrepreneurial spirit since kindergarten, when he was making toys with his colleagues: he gave away the broken ones and managed to get good toys.

“I started my first business since kindergarten. I used to give my colleagues broken toys instead of good toys. I made my first real money in fourth grade when I bought a camera. The materials cost me 25 lei, and I took 3 lei per picture”, Silviu Prigoană testified.
