The Ministry of Education has put in public consultation the draft order of the minister regarding the structure of the year 2025-2026. In a very short time after posting on the official Facebook account, comments and proposals have come.

The Ministry of Education and Research proposes that the school year 2025-2026 have 36 weeks of courses (as well as the current year), the courses start on September 8, 2025 and to end on June 19, 2026. By exception, for the 12th grades Day, the 13th evening and reduced frequency, the school year has a duration of 34 weeks of courses and ends on June 5, 2026. For the eighth grade, the school year has a duration of 35 weeks of courses And it ends on June 12, 2026, for the classes in high school-the technological chain, except for the 12th day, the 13th evening and reduced frequency and for the classes in vocational education, the school year has a duration of 37 For weeks of courses and ends on June 26, 2026, and for the classes in post-secondary education, the duration of the courses is the one established by the educational framework in force.
It is also proposed that the development of the national program “School otherwise” and the “Green Week” program be scheduled between September 8, 2025 – April 3, 2026, at the decision of the educational units. The holiday week will continue to remain at the decision of the school inspectorates, the interval in which it can be scheduled being February 9th-March 2026.
How are the holiday scheduled
The first holiday of the next school year, if the proposal remains in the form presented, will be from Saturday, October 25, 2025 – until Sunday, November 2, 2025. The Christmas holiday will start on Saturday, December 20, 2025, and end on Wednesday, January 7 2026.
The next holiday week is the decision of the county school inspectorates/of Bucharest, between February 9 – March 1, 2026.
The spring holiday will start on Saturday, April 4, 2026 and will end on Tuesday, April 14, 2026.
The big holiday is scheduled between June 20, 2026 – September 6, 2026.
Shortly after posting the announcement on the official Facebook account of the MEC, the comments appeared. Most refer to the organization of the two weeks of activities -the other school, respectively the Green Week -, considering that two weeks dedicated to these activities that require costs that cannot be supported by schools, therefore it is resorted to parents, it is too much.

“Please also consider the prospect of teachers when it comes to organizing the green week and the week “School otherwise”. From our experience, a single week dedicated to non-formal activities is sufficient, considering that during the week “School otherwise” we can integrate topics related to environmental education and environmental protection “the teachers commented.
“Currently, the Green Week is a major challenge for both teachers and parents, especially logistically and financially. The organization of quality activities requires resources that, most of the times, we have to ask parents. It is obvious that two weeks dedicated exclusively to extracurricular activities involves high costs and a significant organizational effort, without the ministry providing adequate financing ”, draws attention to another teacher.

Another teacher wants to know what arguments for maintaining green week as a separate entity. “If this program is considered essential, why is there no concrete financial support from the ministry? Teachers want to offer students quality educational experiences, but this should not depend exclusively on parents’ contributions or the additional efforts of teachers ”, shows another teacher.
Another proposal is that the two weeks of activities will be combined. Another teacher is of the opinion that the teachers should be left to choose 10 days in the school year in which to carry out “otherwise” activities, “Obviously, without 1000 papers to be done because this is not the interest or the purpose”but based on questionnaires completed by parents and students.
In other comments the return to the “classic” structure, September 15 – June 15 is required. “The school must start on September 15! Stop cut from children’s holidays and no longer destroy family holidays and tourism. September 15 -June 15, this should be the school year. Provide in functional conditional aere schools if you want to come until June 19th! ”is another comment.
