Humanitas Publishing House invites you on Thursday, April 18, at 7:00 p.m., at the Humanitas Bookstore in Cișmigiu, to the launch of an editorial superproduction: “Din vremea lui Tudor”, the new book by Radu Oltean, one of the most acclaimed authors of documentary illustration and a passionate researcher of our history. His works, documentaries of great historical accuracy, are true visual and narrative spectacles. The book can be found in bookstores all over the country, but also on libhumanitas.ro
“From the time of Tudor, the fruit of painstaking research, it is a historical reenactment that everyone can understand, full of charm, with scrupulously verified historical information and with suggestive images, impeccably documented, which transport the reader to an extremely agitated era, with unusual people, facts and events.” (Cristian Neagoe)
“Reading the history books, we are alternately enthusiastic, sad, curious, happy or disappointed. We try to paint in our minds the stories of outlaws and outlaws, ladies and nobles, heroes and villains. But reading doesn't always help us turn images into dreams. As always, Radu Oltean puts real people in front of our eyes, in flesh and blood – now with shalvaris and scimitars, horses and rich harnesses, shishanes and turbans, wonderful embroideries or hangers beaten in expensive stones. He leaves nothing to chance. Theodor from Vladimiri leaves for Bucharest with his army of panduri. In these pages we will deal, alongside him, with Greek adventurers and outlaws of ours, with robbers and opportunists, with popes and great boyars, with Russian and Ottoman agents. Hidden in the crowd on the sidelines, we, the readers, see clearly and understand step by step, thanks to an exceptional visual narrative, the stakes of a hero and the failure of a revolution.”, says CONSTANțA VINTILĂ
Among the most important books by Radu Oltean: Dacia: Wars with the Romans. I. Sarmizegetusa (2014), the first of a series of two richly illustrated volumes summarizing the current state of research in the field, was translated into Spanish and English and republished by Humanitas in 2019. Citadels, castles and other fortifications in Romania is an extensive monograph, unique in the field of Romanian historiography, conceived in four volumes, of which the first two appeared (2015, 2020). The bestseller Burebista's Glaciers and their World, published in 2023, illustrated exclusively with original reconstructions, is the first synthesis of specialist research from the last decades.
