Over 70% of the 956 people tested within the caravan “Health comes to you” – The fourth edition have diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol or are obese.
Hundreds of tested people suffer from various archive photo affections
A number of 956 people benefited from free medical checks and analyzes in the fourth edition of the caravan “Health comes to you”. Of these, over 50% of the patients tested have diabetes or prediabetes values in blood sugar or glycate hemoglobin, according to Agerpres.
Thus, 40% have prediabet or insulin resistance and another 13.6% have untreated diabetes. Of the people with diabetes, 35.4% had average and high risk of diabetic neuropathy. 50.6% have increased values of total cholesterol (over 200mg/dl), which means increased risk for cardiovascular disease (myocardial infarction, stroke, etc.), 46.3% have systolic blood pressure values over 140mm col.
At the EKG, 66 people were detected with heart rate disorders, 28 have ischemic disorders and 16 had changes in the dimensions of the heart cavities, and 232 received an additional cardiological consultation.
At the same time, 4 out of 5 of the tested people are overweight or suffer from obesity (82%).
Caravan “Health comes to you” – The 4th edition, project of the Alliance of Chronic Patients in Romania with focus on cardiovascular disease, diabetes and obesity, offered the possibility of free medical checks and analyzes, between May 3 and June 29, for 956 people from the rural area.
The caravan has reached 8 localities in 6 counties that are facing difficult access to medical services. The caravan team made three visits to each locality: one day for blood collection and, one week away, two more days when medical teams, which included a diabetes and cardiologist, came to localities.
The counties and localities visited are Vedea – Giurgiu, Domneşti – Argeş, Unirea and Independence – Călăraşi, Berzunti – Bacău, Cătina – Buzău, General Scărişoreanu and Ţepeş Voda – Constanţa.
The investigations carried out were: hemogram, total cholesterol testing, but also its fractions – LDL, HDL and triglycerides, serum glucose and glycate hemoglobin to evaluate the risk of diabetes, as well as serum creatinine, iron and lipid profile to understand the general functioning of the body, as well as Hormonal evaluations, of consultations with the diabetes doctor, instant blood glucose tests, Michigan test (to detect diabetic neuropathy complications), EKG, blood pressure and pulse measurement, PSA tests to check the health of the prostate. In addition, the cardiovascular risk and body mass index were calculated-all these steps are part of a prevention and medical education.
Also, the team of doctors, nurses, students of post-school sanitary schools have carried out not only investigations, but also offered medical education about prevention in cardiovascular diseases and diabetes control, explained and divided educational brochures, cardiovascular disease, dyslipidemia, podiatry, and they have tips on lifestyle, encouraged the people present to discuss with family doctors about the health problems discovered.
