Ilie Bolojan, after the attacks launched by Hubert Thuma: “PNL must not be USR-ized, but neither should it become PSD-ized”

Asked if he thought about resigning from his position, Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan said on Monday, February 9, that he considered doing “a step to the side“, adding that the work of prime minister is “very demanding and very difficult”.

When you notice certain injustices, when you notice things that are thrown behind you, without having anything to do with reality, you simply at some point think that you could take a step to the side.

The moment I am no longer prime minister, it will be a relief, because it is a very demanding and very difficult job. But I considered that if in this conjuncture I had the honor to assume this responsibility, I must do what is right for our country.

Because others, in other situations, perhaps much more difficult, did much more important things for our country, for their communities, and that was what I did during the years when I was also at Oradea City Hall, and at the County Council, and at the Prefecture. There I always tried to get things done, to make things change and to do not what was good, but what was necessary. This is the situation even now”, said Bolojan to Digi24.

Bolojan says that he is not considering resigning and that he is doing his duty as long as he has political and administrative support.

“I’m not thinking, I’m doing the right thing, as long as it’s possible, as long as there’s support for this. Because here you don’t do things alone, you have the teams of ministers, you have the support in the Parliament. Think that in the Government, if it goes to a motion of censure, if it doesn’t have support, it fails. Every month there are certain tests that we have to pass.”

“The PNL must not be USR-ized, but neither should it be PSD-ized”

Also during the show, the prime minister said that he wanted to make changes in the PNL, but some colleagues did not agree to take a “step to the side”, as stipulated in the party’s statute.

“We wanted to make changes, some of the colleagues in question did not want to step aside, although it is written in the PNL statute. I try to focus all my energy on government issues, but I have the responsibility to make, through internal measures, that the PNL remains a responsible party“, said Ilie Bolojan, who added that the discussions were not generated by government policies, but by aspects related to the renewal of the party.

Regarding the statements of Hubert Thuma, the president of CJ Ilfov, according to which the party leader would “USR-ize the PNL”, Bolojan stated that, “if the PNL wants to be a relevant party, it must rely on professionals”.

“The PNL must not be USR-ized, but neither should it be PSD-ized,” added Bolojan. “Let’s remember that it was not crowded for someone to assume the position of prime minister because it was known what measures had to be taken.

Now we have passed the very difficult period, we have reduced the deficit, our interest rates have decreased, but these things have been done at social costs. It is very easy now to speculate on certain grievances. Why didn’t others take responsibility? But that’s the course of political life, I knew what I was getting myself into. I am aware that I did the right thing for Romania”, the prime minister told us.
