Interim president Ilie Bolojan promulgated on Wednesday, April 2, the law that amends the status of deputies and senators, in order to increase sanctions for unmotivated parliamentarians.

Law no. 96/2006 regarding the status of deputies and senators stipulate that “The participation in at least one parliamentary activity carried out in the headquarters of the Chamber of Deputies or the Senate, as the case may be, within the program and agenda approved by the Permanent Bureau, is considered unmotivated absence and has the consequence of retaining 5% of the gross monthly allowance of the deputy or the senator, except for the absence.”.
The common plenary of the Parliament voted, on March 25, the increase of sanctions for parliamentarians who are missing unmotivated to the activities in the legislative. The initiative was adopted with 337 “for”, 10 against, 51 abstentions, and two other parliamentarians did not vote.
“Too many regulations, technical details, when it is actually only those in this room. If the good sense of home does not work (…) why we bother us a principle that applies everywhere in the Romanian society. You wanted to be in this room, representatives of the people, we have to vote. Our dignity ”then said PSD deputy Daniel Suciu, vice -president of the Chamber of Deputies.
The decision was taken against the background of heated discussions after the gold parliamentarians and they may announce that they are on a parliamentary strike. They were accused by the head of USR deputies, Ionuț Moșteanu, that “They signed the presence to take their meeting allowance of 261 lei“
The gold parliamentarians and then have entered the parliamentary strike as a result of the rejection of the candidate of former candidate Călin Georgescu from the presidential race in May.
