A series of rare and spectacular astronomical events mark this year. But here are the eclipses, what phenomena will arouse the imagination of the passionate theories of conspiracy or astronomy, as well as their meanings.

From an astronomical point of view, 2024 was an extraordinary year, with a total sun eclipse in April, spectacular aurores in May, the appearance of A3-Atlas comet in October and four consecutive super-worlds during the summer.
But 2025 promises to be even more fascinating! Four eclipses awaits us, a rare alignment of the planets, the disappearance of Saturn’s rings and several planetary conjunctions that you will not want to miss. Let’s discover together the most impressive astronomical events of 2025!
1. Four eclipses in 2025. When we have “Moon Sangerie”
The year will start with a total lunar eclipse on March 14 (March 13/14) 2025, also known as “Sangerie Moon”. This phenomenon appears when the Earth is perfectly aligned between the Sun and the Moon, projecting its shadow on our natural satellite. Instead of completely disappearing, the moon acquires a reddish hue due to the Rayleigh dispersion phenomenon, which allows the red rays of the sun through the earth’s atmosphere.
The eclipse will take over three and a half hours, and the phase of “Sangerie Moon” will be visible for more than an hour. The event can be observed from Americas, Antarctica, Alaska, northeast Russia and parts of Africa.
Just two weeks after this eclipse, on March 29, 2025, there will be a partial sun eclipse, during which the Moon will cover up to 93% of the solar disc. It will be visible from America, western Russia, Europe and Africa.
Unfortunately, Romania is not among the areas favored for observations.
On September 7, we will have the second total month, visible eclipse of Asia, Russia, Africa, Oceania and Europe. It will take about three and a half hours, and the total phase will be longer than the one in March.
The last eclipse of the year will be a partial sun eclipse, on September 21, visible from Antarctica and Oceania, when the Moon will cover up to 79% of the sun.
2. The rare alignment of the planets: “The parade of the seven planets” – February 28
Astrological phenomena began in force in 2025, since January, when six of the seven planets of the solar system have been visible simultaneously. Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn could be observed with the naked eye.
On February 28, 2025, this heavenly show continued, Mercury by joining alignment, transforming the phenomenon into a rare “parade of the seven planets”.
3. The disappearance of Saturn’s rings
On March 23, 2025, we will attend a spectacular phenomenon – the visual disappearance of Saturn’s rings. This event, called “Crossing the Plan of Rings”takes place about 15 years old, when the rings are perfectly aligned horizontally against the Earth and the Sun, becoming practically invisible.
However, Saturn will be in conjunction with the Sun on March 12, which will make it difficult to observe for almost a month and a half. However, in November 2025, the rings will appear again very thin, giving a second chance to see them in an almost invisible position. The next opportunity to see this phenomenon will be only in 2038!
4. Spectacular planetary conjunctions
2025 will be an excellent year for observing fascinating planetary alignments. This started from January 18, when Venus and Saturn appeared extremely close to the evening sky, forming a visible pair with the naked eye.
The most spectacular event of the year, however, will take place on August 12, 2025, when Venus and Jupiter – the brightest planets in the sky – will be only one degree from each other in the twin constellation. The coincidence with the maximum of Perseide meteor rain will turn this night into an unforgettable astronomical show.
In addition to these conjunctions, 2025 will be marked by three triple conjunctions, when the moon will join planets in the sky. One already took place on February 1, when the moon, Venus and Saturn created a beautiful landscape at sunset. On April 25, o “Smiling face” Formed by the moon, Venus and Saturn will be visible before the east. And on September 19, the moon, Venus and Steaua Regus will form a special alignment on the morning sky.
5. Spectacular aurore and Meteor Rain
In 2025, due to the intense solar activity, we will be able to see Aurore Boreal even in areas where they are rarely visible. After the sun has reached its maximum activity in 2024, geomagnetic storms will become frequent, creating ideal conditions for light shows in the sky.
Another notable event will be the rain of Geminide meteors, which will reach the peak on the night of December 13-14, 2025, just when the sky will be deprived of the moonlight, ensuring excellent conditions for observation.
One year to unrivaled for lovers of astronomy
2025 It is announced to be an exceptional year for astronomy enthusiasts, with rare eclipses, spectacular planetary alignments and unique events. Even the next month, March, promises to be a real astronomical feast, giving us the opportunity to admire the rare planetary parade, impressive eclipses and cosmic changes that mark the passage to spring.
So, write down this data in the calendar and prepare for a year full of memorable moments on the night sky! With telescopes, binoculars or simply with the naked eye, you will be able to observe these amazing phenomena and on the sky of Romania!
