The loves, friendships, inspirations of the artist and the Paris of the Avant-Garde can be seen and felt between September 18 and December 20, 2026
. Today, on Constantin Brâncusi’s birthday, Art Safari New Museum announces an exceptional exhibition dedicated to the great artist. It will be presented during the second season, which will take place between September 18 and December 20, 2026, in the new space at Piața Amzei 13, Bucharest.
Based on an extensive research carried out by Doina Lemny, the exhibition “Brâncuși and his muses” aims to go beyond the fascinating beauty of the surface of the Brâncuși sculptures, and to explore the relationship of the artist with the women in his life – friends, lovers, admirers, confidantes and sources of inspiration. However, the exhibition will go beyond the idea of a muse and will explore the creative power of the women who inspired Brâncusi, a power that the sculptor, through his innovative manner, encapsulated in modern art objects, but of a timeless artistic value.

Among them are Margit Pogany, Baroness Renée Irana Frachon, but also well-known Avant-garde artists, such as Lizica Codreanu, Nancy Cunard and Florence Meyer, with whom Brâncuși maintained a friendship and correspondence throughout his life. They inspired famous works such as Mlle Pogany, Princess X and The Sleeping Muse.
The exhibition is curated by Doina Lemny, art historian and curator, Art Safari commissioner of the Constantin Brâncusi Year in Romania, and coordinated by Maria Munteanu. The scenography is signed by Cosmin Florea.

“The Romanian origin of the universally recognized artist inspires us to celebrate him in the country in the most dignified and respectful way towards the work he left to the world. Together with Art Safari, we will offer the public a unique aspect, namely that of the intimate life of the artist that was reflected in his works, some of which have become emblematic, such as The Sleeping Muse, Dra Pogany, Danaida, Princess X. In addition to sculptures, photographs will be exhibited originals, documents and films that will recreate the atmosphere of the Parisian workshop where the artist’s guests engaged in conversations, brought joy and good cheer, animating the sculptures witnessing this exchange of innovative ideas”, he stated Doina Lemny, art historian and curator, Art Safari commissioner of the Constantin Brâncusi Year in Romania.
The exhibition takes place in a special cultural context: 2026 is declared the Year of Constantin Brâncuși, and today, February 19, marks the 150th anniversary of the artist’s birth. In this context, the exhibition “Brâncuși and his muses” proposes a different perspective on Brancuși’s creation: one that starts from real life and the energy of the beginning of the 20th century, when Paris became a center of the Avant-Garde, cultural meetings and female emancipation.

Photography, a different art that Brâncuși practiced with passion
In March 2022, Doina Lemny, international expert on Brâncusi, author of several volumes about him and curator of modern art exhibitions, published an illustrated volume about the artist’s relationship with the women in his life: friends, lovers, admirers, inspirational muses. Brâncusi is evoked by his friends as a great seducer – a warm, discreet presence that inspired confidence and attracted sensitive souls.
Building on this research, the exhibition at Art Safari New Museum brings to the fore portraits, archival documents (rarely presented), photographs, works and other materials designed to provide context to illuminate the artist’s relationship with women in the early 20th century. It is a period of great cultural effervescence, when artists and writers from all over the world meet and create in Paris.
The public will discover Brâncuși through those who crossed his life and workshop: Marthe Lebherz, Vera Moore, Margit Pogany, Léonie Ricou, Eileen Lane, Renée-Irana Frachon, Agnes E. Meyer and his four daughters, Nancy Cunardas well as Marina Chaliapine, Beatrice Wood, Mina Loyalongside Dudley, Lizica and Irène Codréano. Together, these figures outline a coherent story of inspiration, freedom and modernity.
“The women in Brâncusi’s life were often more than discrete presences: interlocutors, confidants, free spirits of Paris at the beginning of the 20th century. In the exhibition at Art Safari, we want to follow the thread of these relationships and show how an intense biography, lived among artists, writers and muses, fueled a work that remains incredibly topical”. declare Maria Munteanu, exhibition coordinator.

Photography, an art that Brâncusi practiced with passion, has an essential role in this exhibition, offering a vivid image of the relationships that accompanied Brâncusi’s work and contributed to the cultural atmosphere from which modern art was born.
