INTERVIEW Luca Mazzucchelli, psychologist and author: “I would like readers to learn to accept and understand their emotions”

Luca Mazzucchelli is a psychologist, psychotherapist and entrepreneur and the author of several essays promoting psychology, always looking for new ways to bring psychology closer to people's everyday lives.

Luca Mazzucchelli

Through his social networks, on which he is very popular, Luca Mazzucchelli talks daily with hundreds of thousands of people whom he helps to solve their problems of a psychological nature. He is also a speaker for corporate events and was named the Best Coach on psychological issues by the Italian Coaches Association. He edits the magazine Psicologia contemporanea magazine and is an editorial consultant for various book series. He lives in Milan with his wife and their three children.

Luca Mazzucchelli wrote the children's books: “The theme that becomes courage” and “Everything is hard before it becomes easy”, but also “The 1% Factor” or “The Era of the Heart”.

The Truth: Following the success of the 3 children's books, “THE 1% FACTOR: Small Habits for Big Results,” a book about the power of values-based habits, is coming. What are the most important aspects presented in the book?

Luca Mazzucchelli: In the the 1% factor I explain a method to transform step by step (with 1%) the behaviors important to us into actions that are easy to repeat, so into solid and sustainable habits over time. I would say there are two important concepts here. The first is the logic of small steps: if we want to improve our lives, we must not aim for radical changes, but for small changes that we can repeat consistently over time. From this point of view, acquiring small habits is an effective way to get closer to our goals and improve our lives in a real and sustainable way. The second concept is that of value-based habits. Values are the reasons why each of us considers life worth living. Why are customs so important? Because, after you understand what your values are and what really matters to you, then you will better understand what habits will come naturally to you. A habit rooted in our values is more likely to “stick” and become a lasting behavior. On the contrary, a habit that is not based on any value will be formed with much more difficulty or, even if we manage to form it, it will not lead us to a life that, for us, will be more meaningful and rewarding.

What additional resources do you provide readers to help them apply the learnings from your books?

In addition to the books, I offer readers various additional resources, including a series of videos available on my YouTube channel, most of them in Italian. In these videos, I give in-depth information, practical suggestions and concrete examples to integrate the concepts presented in my books into everyday life.

What's the most memorable story or experience you've had with a reader?

It's not just one. I have to say that every time I have an event or a book signing, there is always someone who tells me how the change started because of one of my books, and the way they tell it often makes me to get emotional Not infrequently you will see me moved during a book launch, when I talk face to face with readers.

What impact would you like to have with your books in the lives of readers and in society in general?

From this point of view, I have big dreams. I don't know if I'll ever be able to fulfill them, but it's nice to keep them in my heart. My goal is to succeed, through my books and the other materials I propose, to make people grow by 1% every day, initiating a transformation through a multitude of small changes, in such a way that they bring out their maximum potential. My biggest dream is to change the perception of psychology in the world, conveying the idea that this discipline offers scientific and practical tools, and that we only need to try to use them with minimal consistency in our lives to start the change.

What resources and sources of inspiration do you use in the writing process?

In this regard, I stand on the shoulders of giants: I read a lot, psychological authors and more, Italian and foreign. The other source of inspiration is my life. In my books, I often talk about personal experience: the vacations I take with my family, the experiences I have with my wife, the dynamics between me and my clients or my team. I always try to unite these two spheres, on the one hand the theories I learn from my masters, and on the other my life, creating a bridge between these two macro areas.

What resources and tools do you use to stay current and informed about psychology and personal development?

First, I buy a lot of video courses and watch a lot of material on YouTube. And, of course, I read a lot of books: I always have one at hand, ready to leaf through and make notes in the margins. Then, as soon as I have the opportunity, I also participate in various workshops and conferences, because nothing can replace the experience of learning and confronting directly the fathers of the theories and methods of psychology and personal development.

How do you think your books influence readers' perception and attitude towards their own emotions and experiences?

I hope that my works can positively influence readers' perception and attitude towards their emotions and experiences. Through the stories, messages and advice presented in my books, I try to encourage a greater awareness of emotions and the ability to face life's challenges with courage and resilience. I want readers to learn to accept and understand their emotions instead of repressing or ignoring them, and to manage their experiences constructively, finding meaning and opportunity for growth even in hardship.

What have been the most significant life lessons you've learned that you want to pass on to The Age of Heart?

It was of the heart
contains 16 personal development lessons I've learned throughout my life. The book is a kind of “reverse therapy”: after years of listening to the stories of my patients as a psychologist, now I am the one who opens up, telling my life full of mistakes, fragility, falls, but and many teachings. The most important lesson is that we always have a brave decision to make and that, in our profession and in our private life, we must put the heart and what it represents, i.e. values, emotions, ideals, in the center, because only in this way can it come out revealing our uniqueness. And the world, with the artificial intelligence that dominates, especially needs this, our uniqueness.
