The PNL spokesperson, Ionuţ Stroe, reacted on Sunday to the statement of the former Minister of the Environment from the UDMR, Tanczos Barna, who stated that after the elections, the Hungarians in Romania “they will be closer to autonomy“. Stroe countered that “the closer they are to the topic of autonomy, the further they will be from the future government” and asked the UDMR politician to respect the Constitution.

“I understand that the former Minister of the Environment says that he is getting closer to the issue of autonomy. I leave aside the fact that this theme, for more than 30 years, has not brought anything good in the development of inter-ethnic relations in Romania, in fact it was the only one that generated tensions. I don’t even take into account the fact that it was a theme on the basis of which some people became permanent in parliamentary positions. But, basically, it is simply the eternal electoral theme of the UDMR“, the PNL spokesperson said on Sunday, reports News.ro.
Ionuț Stroe emphasized that the choice belongs to the UDMR.
“It’s your choice, but I can assure Mr. Barna of one thing. From the point of view of the PNL, the “closer” they are to the topic of autonomy, the further they will be from the future government that he spoke about in Tuşnad. We respect the Hungarian ethnic group in our country, as we respect all the ethnic groups living on the territory of Romania, and we expect Mr. Tanczos Barna to respect the Constitution of Romania and the Romanians, equally“, Stroe also transmitted.
UDMR Senator Tanczos Barna, former Minister of the Environment, declared at Băile Tuşnad that his party aims to return to government after this year’s elections and that Hungarians in Romania will be closer to obtaining autonomy.
