Invited to a program on Radio Dobrogea, the archbishop of Tomis was asked, on Thursday, by a person whose doctor advised him not to fast, due to some neurological ailments he suffers from, if he can ask the priest for absolution for the days of fasting.
His Holiness (ÎPS) Teodosie conveyed to her that regarding “matters of the soul” doctors have no spiritual training and, in addition, sweet food “has toxins and makes you worse”, according to News.ro.
“Don’t follow a doctor in matters of the soul! The doctor, in general, urges you to eat consistently, because he has no spiritual training. If it seems to you that the sacrifice is small only with fasting, now you are asking for an excessively large release”. recommended ÎPS Teodosie to the person whose doctor had told her that fasting would be contraindicated in her case.
“No way. It’s not sweet food that makes you healthy, it makes you sick. It has toxins and makes you worse.” urged the Archbishop of Tomis, continuing “Keep order. Do not ask for release, because the priest is not allowed to break the rules”.
“These are common orders for all Christians and more prayer, more faith in God and it will be better”, concluded the prelate.
It is not the first time that the Archbishop of Tomis contradicts the doctors. Tor as a guest on the same show, some time ago, ÎPS Teodosie stated that in the case of adults mental illnesses are “weaknesses”, and in the case of children they are caused by the sins of the parents and can be cured by prayer. He claimed that many sick people who prayed with “determination, sacrifice and love” received more significant help from prayer than from medication for these conditions.
