The poet Ioan Es. Pop, 66, has died. The announcement was made by writer Varujan Vosganian. “Ioan Es also died. Pop… It's a tough time for writers“, Varujan wrote on the Facebook page.
John Es. Pop (b. 1958) was one of the most original poets of the '90s generation. Born in Maramureş, since 1989 he lives in the capital, where he worked as an editor and journalist. He was a member of the Romanian Writers' Union. He has published over ten volumes of poems to date: The dead end (1994) – Dead end (2016), Pig (1996), Pantelimon 113 bis (2000), The bridge (2000), No exit (2007), Sleeping gear (2011), Poetic work (2016) for which he was awarded numerous literary prizes.
He graduated, in 1983, from the Faculty of Philology, the Romanian-English section of the University of Baia Mare.
He made his publishing debut, in 1994, with the volume of poems “Ieudul păsă șișire” (Editura Cartea Românească). In parallel, he collaborates with poems in the magazines “Luceafărul”, “Nouăzeci”, “Tribuna”, “Astra”, “Contemporanul”, “Vatra”, “Romania literară”, “Contrapunct” and “Convorbiri literar”.
