Lasconi, from agony to ecstasy and vice versa. How the USR saw the election results. REPORT

Elena Lasconi, the USR candidate in the presidential elections, was reserved after the exit polls placed her as Marcel Ciolacu’s counter-candidate in the 2nd round.

The attitude proved to be correct after the results after the counting of votes from over 90% of the wards placed Călin Georgescu in 1st place and Marcel Ciolacu in 2nd place.

USR leaders gathered at the campaign headquarters in the afternoon. The atmosphere was relaxing, but later the state of agitation increased.

After the publication of the first data, from 21:00, the atmosphere in the USR headquarters continued to be tense, even if Elena Lasconi seemed to have succeeded in entering the second round of the elections. Party members, although happy with this preliminary news, were left overcome with emotions. Their concern was created by the surprising results of the counter-candidate Călin Georgescu, who obtained a much higher score compared to previous polls.

Please be very careful! We are not happy, let’s enjoy tomorrow! But be careful in all polling stations, at every ballot, every vote counts! It is essential to stay there and defend the Romanians’ votes! And when I say this, I mean all the delegates from all political parties, not just the delegates from the USR”, said Elena Lasconi.

The surprise of the evening was, without a doubt, the performance of Călin Georgescu. His third-place finish, with an unexpectedly high number of votes, overturned all the polls and called into question the security of the USR’s position. Team members began to wonder if this shocking growth could negatively impact Elena Lasconi’s chances. They began to discuss the votes from the diaspora, which were not counted.

Elena Lasconi retired to her office to give interviews to journalists, and in the meantime, her colleagues in the office watched carefully what was going to happen, discussing the possibility of the independent Călin Georgescu rising to the second position.

After the arrival of the following results and the rise of Călin Georgescu to the second position, there was an oppressive silence among Lasconi’s supporters. But they remained positive. The silence that followed was filled with a feeling of safety.

Meanwhile, Georgescu took the first place, and Elena Lasconi is fighting with Marcel Ciolacu for the 2nd place. The difference between the two is a little over 200,000 votes, but Lasconi has the opportunity to recover the votes with the help of the sections abroad and with the advantage of Bucharest.

Everyone’s hope will remain there until the final results are displayed. The party relies both on the votes of the diaspora and the votes of the big cities, where Elena Lasconi is in first place.
