The National House of Health Insurance announced on Friday that, following the evaluation made by the National Medicines Agency (ANMDMR), 13 drugs will change the level of compensation, which means additional costs for patients.

Taking into account the interests of the insured persons, CNAS identified and proposed to the Ministry of Health a series of additional criteria for changing the level of compensation of the evaluated drugs, so that the real impact on the personal contribution due by the insured persons is as moderate as possible. “it is shown in a statement of the institution.

List of targeted drugs

According to CNAS, the measure targets both cardiovascular and antacid or antibiotics:

Compensation 20% (of lists A and B moved to List D): Indapamidum, metoprololum, bisoprololum, perindoprilum + indapamidum, candesartanum cilexetil, rosuvastatinum, nebivololum, rilmenidinum and atorvastatinum;

Compensation 50% (from the list has moved to list B): Fenofibratum, omeprazolum, spironolactonum + furosemidum and amoxicillinum + clavulanicum acidum.

The real impact for patients

Following the changes, the personal contribution will increase on average by 9 lei/box for these drugs.

At the same time, CNAS emphasizes that the statements that occur in the public space on increases of 500-600 lei per month/medicine are false.

“Patients in Romania will not be burdened with excessive personal contributions, and statements in the public space on additional costs of hundreds of lei per month for these compensated drugs are false and create unnecessary panic.”is shown in the statement sent by the institution.

Who will not be affected

The vulnerable categories remain protected. For children, young people up to 26 who study and do not get revenues, pregnant women, praises and beneficiaries of special laws, the compensation is 100%.

Also, pensioners who benefit from the compensation program for drugs in sublist B will continue to receive 90% of the reference price.

The measure comes from the memorandum adopted by the government in 2023 on the efficiency of public health expenses.

Authorities argue that the purpose is to use the budget more efficiently and to allow the access of a greater number of patients to treatments within the same financing ceiling.
