Actor Macaulay Culkin shared an emotional message on Instagram following the death of actress Catherine O’Hara, his mother from the Home Alone movies.
“Mom, I thought we still had time… I wanted to sit next to you and talk some more. I heard you, but I had so much to say. I love you. We’ll see each other again.”is the message posted by Macaulay Culkin on Instagram, accompanied by a photo of the two from Home Alone and another image from the 2023 Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony, where Culkin received a star and O’Hara was in attendance.
Emmy Award-winning actress Catherine O’Hara has died at the age of 71 after a short illness. The cause of death has not yet been made public.
Culkin, now 45, has said in the past that O’Hara was a mother figure to him when they worked together on Home Alone when he was just 10 years old. In Home Alone (1990), O’Hara played a mother who accidentally leaves her son (played by Culkin) at home. The two starred together again in the 1992 sequel, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.
Their on-set chemistry blossomed into a deep friendship based on respect, affection and humor. O’Hara has been a true supporter of the former child actor, being by his side in important moments of his life and career, writes People.
The Canadian actress supported Culkin at the ceremony to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in December 2023, noting in amazement that he was “older than I was when I played his mother”.
“Thanks for including me, your fake stay-at-home mom twice, in this happy occasion”
O’Hara then gave an emotional speech about Culkin and their memories together on set. “Home Alone was, is, and always will be a global sensation… the reason families all over the world can’t go a year without watching it and loving it. Thank you for including me, your fake stay-at-home mom twice, in this happy occasion. I’m so proud of you.”said the actress.
In a Q&A with The New York Times in 2024, Culkin revealed that he still tells the actress “parent”adding that every time he sees O’Hara, “he opens his arms and says: “Son”.
