MAI warns about fake emails that use the identity of public order institutions: “An extra second of attention”

The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI) sent a warning to citizens regarding the fraudulent e-mails that have been circulating recently, falsely using the identity of some law enforcement institutions both in Romania and abroad.

These messages are intended to induce recipients to access dangerous links or respond to alleged invitations. The MAI recommends citizens to be cautious and follow some safety rules:

– not to access the received links;

– not to provide personal data;

– block and report suspicious addresses.

If someone has already interacted with such messages, the MAI recommends checking and securing the device, changing important passwords, protecting bank accounts and reporting to the police, either online or at the nearest police station.

“An extra second of attention helps you stay safe,” emphasizes the MAI, recalling the importance of vigilance in the face of cyber fraud attempts.

Online and phone scams are becoming more sophisticated, and more and more Romanians are reporting experiences where scammers use fake identities, clone pages and messaging apps to obtain personal data or money. Recent cases show how easily a believable scenario can be created and how important vigilance is.
