February 8 is a black day for Romanian sport. In 2009, Marian Cozma, one of our most valuable handball players, was killed with cold blood in the “Patriota” club in Veszprem, Hungary.
16 years have passed since the tragedy, and two of the Romanian killers are preparing to get out of prison. After 3 years of trials, Raffael Sandor and Nemeth Gyozo have received the prison sentence, but they will be 18, so they are only two and will be able to enjoy freedom. In contrast, Ivan Sztojka received 20 years initially, but the punishment was later reduced to 9 years. He was released after 5 years for good behavior and changed his name when he left the bars.
However, Ivan Sztojka is now again in prison, being convicted of human trafficking and pimping. He received a sentence of 12 years, of which 4 years and five months are the arrears of the Romanian handball player.
Four other accomplices in the killing of Cozma were already released, long ago: Pal Gabor (who had received a 5 -year prison sentence), Csaba Bihari (4 years in prison), Gergely Péterné (3 years in prison) and Antalik László (2 years and 8 months in prison).

On the night of February 7 to 8, 2009, Marian Cozma was in the “Patriota” club in the city of Veszprem, along with other handball players, to celebrate the birth of one of his colleagues. In the club there was an altercation and Cozma was a group of three people. The Romanian handball player was stabbed in the heart. His colleagues Ivan Pesic and Zarko Sesum were also hit, the first being stabbed in the kidneys, and the second suffered a cranial trauma.
Today, at the commemoration of the death of “Păsărilă”, the father of the athlete, Petre Cozma, sent an emotional message on the social networks: “16 years have passed without you, my baby, but for us, the family, is like yesterday. You will always be in our hearts! ”. And the representatives of the Veszprem club – who withdrew the t -shirt with the number 8 carried by the huge pivot -, laid this morning a crown of flowers at the Romanian statue in front of the Hungarian band.

Marian Cozma’s physical appearance seemed more of a mafia than a athlete.
I remember exactly that that night that tall boy, Marian Cozma, disturbed more people with his dance style. He was hit by everyone around him, twice he pushed into me. It was obvious to be aggressive! He pushed me to the dance floor to challenge me. We started to dress and began. There were three or four boys from us and three from them. We fought with real men, they shared a few palms, we felt them, but it was not a problem that we responded. I was glad that we found someone to fight with.
I, one, did not stab the Cozma. I saw that someone is on earth and someone else is on his knees. I thought that the bottom was one of ours and then I ran and hit the one on my knees. I left the last one from the premises, because I could not find my friend, Raffael Sandor. ”
