Measures against the heat wave. How the authorities are preparing to face the heat wave

While meteorologists announce the first heat code orange of this summer for tomorrow, local authorities are taking measures to protect the population. During the heat wave, when the temperatures exceed 35 degrees Celsius, the residents of Sector 6 of the Capital have seven first aid points at their disposal.

They operate daily, between 10.00 and 18.00 and are located in the following locations:

General Directorate of Social Assistance and Child Protection sector 6, head office, Cernișoara street no. 38-40;

Multifunctional Health Center “Sfântul Nectarie”, Bd,m Uverturii, no. 81;

Social boarding school for children with disabilities “Domnița Bălașa”, Aleea istru no. 6B;

IL Caragiale Senior Club, bd. May 1, no. 15;

Mihail Sadoveanu Senior Club, Bd. Timișoara, no. 73;

Stela Popescu Seniors Club, Calea Crângași no 44;

Seniors' Club Iulia hasdeu, Sos. Virtues No. 3

These centers open from the day the authorities declare a heat wave. They are equipped with first aid kits, hygienic and sanitary materials, first emergency medicines and have specialized staff. On request, passers-by are given water, they stay cool, their blood pressure is measured and if necessary they are given first aid.

Drinking water distribution points in sector 6 of the Capital

Starting next week, the Commercial Administration sector 6 provides drinking water to passers-by in Valea Ialomiței Square, Apusului Square, Orizont Square. Here, citizens will find water dispensers and disposable cups every day, between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. from Monday to Saturday and between 7:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on Sundays.

How to protect yourself from the heat wave

The town hall of sector six presents a guide on how to protect our health during hot days.

Avoid prolonged exposure to the sun between 11.00 and 18.00;

If you don't have air conditioners at home or at work, spend 2.3 hours daily in cool public spaces (malls, supermarkets, etc.);

Wear sun hats, loose, light-colored, natural fiber clothing;

During the day, take several small showers, without wiping yourself with water;

Drink at least two liters of water daily, without waiting for the feeling of thirst to appear. Thirst is a signal that the body is already dehydrated. During periods of heat wave it is recommended to drink a glass of water every 15-20 minutes;

Do not drink alcohol, as it dehydrates and reduces the body's ability to cope with heat;

Avoid drinks with a high caffeine or sugar content as they are diuretics:

Eat fruits and vegetables with a high water content: melons, cherries, strawberries, peaches, cucumbers, tomatoes.

Avoid outdoor physical activities that require high energy consumption;

Take care of your dependents, children, the elderly, disabled people who suffer from certain ailments. Give them fluids, even if they don't ask.

Dress children casually, in clothes made of natural materials, with caps and hats to protect their heads;

Do not take them out of the house at inappropriate hours on hot days. Especially when the red heat code is announced, children under the age of three should not be taken out of the house between 9:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. Give them plain water, lightly sweetened teas, fresh fruits and vegetables. Breastfeeding mothers should hydrate properly, avoid coffee and alcohol consumption, pay more attention to the hygiene of babies; Preschool children are recommended to take showers with water at room temperature;

Recommendations for the elderly and people with chronic conditions

Do not leave the house between 11.00 and 18.00. If you must go out, wear hard hats and light, light-colored clothing. People with chronic, cardio-vascular, hepatic, renal, pulmonary, circulatory, mental or hypertension conditions must consult their doctor in order to adapt the therapeutic scheme to the hot season.

Recommendations for those who work outdoors

Dose your effort according to the times of the day, trying to avoid intense work during the peak of the heatwave; if the temperature is very high, the activity will be stopped; Wear appropriate equipment, made of natural materials and protect your head; Consume plenty of fluids. Avoid coffee and alcohol.

Bucharest and Ilfov, under an orange storm code

Bucharest is currently under an orange weather warning of unstable weather. The alert is valid until 16:30 and concerns the city of Bucharest and the following localities in Ilfov county: Voluntari, Pantelimon, Brănești, Afumați, Glina, Găneasa, Ștefăneștii de Jos, Tunari, Popești-Leordeni. There will be: medium-sized hail, frequent electrical discharges, intensification of the wind, gale, showers that will accumulate 30 l/m2.

The Bucharest Emergency Situations Inspectorate recommends that you comply with the following preventive measures:

– avoid taking shelter or passing near trees, poles, billboards, constructions with architectural elements that can be easily dislodged, as well as buildings under construction;

– stop the activities carried out in open ground or at height;

– close the windows of houses and other categories of buildings;

– do not touch poles or power lines that have fallen to the ground.
