Elena Lasconi reached the Government, where she scheduled a meeting with Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu.
The meeting comes against the background of speculation regarding a possible candidacy of the interim president Ilie Bolojan, especially in the context of a statement of the head of the USR regarding a support of his candidacy. She understood Monday that she could consider the withdrawal of her candidacy for the presidential elections of 2025 in favor of Ilie Bolojan.
Asked if he would agree to support Ilie Bolojan, if he will enter the electoral race from the ruling coalition instead of Crin Antonescu, Elena Lasconi said:
“Yes, I would be willing to do it if the measurements were showing that too. It is very important that this candidate is to the liking of the PSD, and to the PNL’s liking and to win if it reaches the second round. I think it is a time when we should leave the pride and if I have a quality, the calm and the lack of pride, especially when it comes to such an important thing, the future of our country and to live freely and new children. I think it is a very important moment in which to make decisions with courage to be done justice and to have a free pro-NATO free road”.
The USR president later returned with specification and stressed that at the meeting he will have with Marcel Ciolacu he will not discuss a possible withdrawal of his candidacy for the position of president.
“We are not talking about my withdrawal. I am not withdrawing, I think it was misunderstood. Last night (no on Tuesday, March 4) we had a national political office meeting in which we discussed the contracts we make in Precaampanie, consultants and so on. I am in full election campaign. But I talked about the fact that we should not fragment these votes. I am not a candidate and I do not want to swell in the feathers. I am the candidate who entered the second round, let’s not forget this. On the other hand, above my person, it is Romania and it is my interest in keeping the European road to be a democratic country, to be a free country and I think it is important to make some measurements, some surveys“, Said the head of the USR.
