Memories of the Golden Age, with Octavian Ursulescu

At 77 years old, Octavian Ursulescu, who defines himself as “a workaholic”, is very active and is involved in many projects. On his birthday, on July 17, after answering everyone’s congratulatory messages, he took the time to write a few articles for the magazine “Actualitatea Muzicală” of the Union of Composers and Musicologists from Romania, where he is editor for life .

“Among these, of course, the most important (projects) of this “year 77” in which I was directly involved, as a presenter: the concert “Every woman is beautiful” by Iana Novac, at Sala Palatului, the anniversary of “Jolt Kerestely – 90” from the National Military Circle, Camelia Florescu concert and book launch in Giurgiu, the 19th edition of the “George Grigoriu” International Light Music Festival in Brăila (which I have been presenting since the first edition), the colloquium “Music interwar light, link between Romania and Europe” at the ARCUB hall, the “Flag Festival” at Comarnic”, the presenter listed some of the events he will be present at in 2024.

When he has free time, Octavian Ursulescu carols his native Transylvania, visiting his relatives and friends, and devotes himself to his two great passions, gardening and fishing.

“When I have some time, visiting my native Transylvania, visiting relatives and friends (I did it this year as well) and I take care of my little garden. There are, in fact, several strips of land, next to the fence, which we “exploited” mercilessly! Thus, I have a cherry, a hair, an apple, a plum, an apricot (as I don’t spray them, I basically just enjoy… their flowers, in the spring!), four hazelnuts, many roses. Apart from hazelnuts (two forest and two red), the “royal family” is completed by sunflowers, which dominate the alley from the street, and especially by strawberries, which make a fuss and spread where they want, nor I don’t dare to walk in the yard anymore”, he told Click!.

After bragging about his last fishing adventure, when he managed to capture a mullet for the first time, as well as the 10-kilogram shad he caught in Brăila, the artist reminisced about memories from the “Golden Age”, an occasion with who told what exactly Elena Ceauşescu didn’t like at TVR, but also what the famous “reserve map” was and when it was activated.

Octavian Ursulescu confessed that he never personally met the presidential couple Nicolae and Elena Ceauşescu, but he understood that they were also watching the shows made by him. During one of them, made in collaboration with Titus Munteanu, a song in which images of several scantily clad female artists appeared was suddenly interrupted and a taraf appeared, singing popular music with fire. That’s when he found out what the “scheme” was called backup map and had been activated at the request of Cabinet no. 2.
