A study in 33 countries shows that men tend to fall in love sooner than women and express what they feel faster. Emotional and social differences seem to play an important role.

According to an international study published by Science Alert, men fall in love on average, a month earlier than women. Although the intensity of feelings is similar, researchers claim that men express their love faster, while women get more emotionally involved.
“We are particularly interested if biological sex influences the appearance, evolution and expression of romantic love ”said the anthropologist biologist Adam Bode, from the Australian National University (ANU), one of the authors of the research.
The research was conducted by a team from Australia and New Zealand, based on a survey applied to a sample of 808 young people between the ages of 18 and 25. All the participants declared themselves “in love” at the time of the questionnaire.
“The study covers 33 different countries in Europe, North America and South Africa“Adam Bode explained.
The questionnaire was designed to explore more dimensions of romantic love, including the moment when the participants began to feel love, how intense their feelings were, how many times they fell in love and how concerned or “obsessed” they were the current partner.
What the researchers discovered
After analyzing the data, the specialists concluded that men fall in love with a month earlier than women. Also, they are more likely to fall in love before the relationship becomes official, about 30% of men said this, compared to below 20% of women.
However, the emotional involvement of women is stronger. They tend to spend more time thinking obsessively about their partner and live the relationship more intensely.
“It is the first study to investigate the differences between women and men in terms of romantic love, using a relatively large intercultural sample ”said Bode. “It is the first convincing evidence that women and men differ in certain aspects of love romantic ”.
The researchers analyzed other factors, such as age and ratio between the number of men and women in each country. Although some differences, such as those related to commitment, have faded according to the context, others have remained constant.
Another interesting result: in countries with a high degree of gender equality, people fall in love rarely, are less dedicated and less “obsessed” by their partners.
Love – a scientific mystery still unexplored
“Romantic love is too little studied, despite its importance in forming family relationships, cultural influence and its alleged universality.“Bode said.”We want to help people understand it better. “
The researchers conclude, stating that in addition to biology, love is modeled by social norms, cultural pressures and the instinct to find a partner to build a future. These aspects will continue to be investigated in future studies.
