Mihai Polițeanu: “Sebastian Ghita still has a say in Ploiești politics”

Mihai Polițeanu, the elected mayor of Ploiesti, said on Saturday that the main criticisms of the current administration are arrogance, carelessness and corruption. Asked on Saturday’s “Insider Politic” show, on Prima TV, about the most frequent criticisms brought to the mayor in office, Mihai Polițeanu mentioned arrogance, carelessness and corruption.

Arrogance and carelessness, and to the entire Ploiești political class, corruption doubled by carelessness, so that careless feeling that you are in an important city of Romania forgotten by history, from which you look not only at Bucharest, but also at Târgovişte, Braşov, cities that a few years ago were dusty and below the standards of quality of life in Ploiesti and now they have all taken off near us. A city which, unfortunately, after 35 years of PSD-PNL rule, is dusty, dead, you don’t see people in the evening, you don’t see people on weekends, very few possibilities for fun, a lot of mess, corruption, unfortunately. Yes, Ploieşti is known for the high level of corruption, all kinds of people like Sebastian Ghiţă, Iulian Dumitrescu, the Cozma family and so on, In fact, the national news in Ploieşti, unfortunately, until now, has been around these characters and around acts of corruption, either suspected or confirmed by the court or prosecutors“, answered Mihai Polițeanu, according to News.ro.

Sebastian Ghiță, honorary citizen of the city of Ploiești

The elected mayor of Ploieşti, the independent Mihai Polițeanu, emphasized that Sebastian Ghiţă continues to influence the city’s politics.

Sebastian Ghita is still in control. I don’t realize the level of control over politics and politicians in Ploiesti, but it was very clear to me that Sebastian Ghiţă still has a say in Ploiesti politics (…) Sebastian Ghiţă, if you didn’t know, is an honorary citizen of Ploieştiului, together with Nichita Stănescu and Caragiale”Mihai Polițeanu also said.

He mentioned that he proposed withdrawing the title of honorary citizen granted to Sebastian Ghiţă, but the initiative was rejected by all the parties in the City Council.

I expected it to pass because the majority was PNL – USR in the City Council (…) Furthermore, Sebastian Ghiţă is an honorary citizen of Ploiesti. The project did not pass (…) It was a negative surprise from USR, I didn’t know how to interpret it. The only interpretation was that at that time, USR was in alliance with PNL, but, nevertheless, it was a public speech. So, in the future, Sebastian Ghiţă is an honorary citizen of Ploiesti, with the protection of all the parties that were in the City Council in 2024 and of the current future former mayor, Andrei Volosevici“, added Mihai Polițeanu.

The independent deputy Mihai Polițeanu won the Ploiești City Hall, in the local elections of 2024. Polițeanu wants to remain independent from political corruption networks, including the big parties such as PSD and PNL, which he considers responsible for the corruption in Prahova County. He won the elections with 25.49% of the votes, ahead of Bogdan Nica (PNL) and Andrei Volosevici (PSD).
