Mihai Tudose and Viorel Hrebenciuc met at the end of August, in a restaurant in the capital. Several photos obtained by G4Media journalists indicate that the two sat at a table in a restaurant close to the PSD headquarters.
Mihai Tudose confirmed the meeting, but specified to the journalists that there were some private discussions, unrelated to party activity. Instead, Viorel Hrebenciuc did not make any kind of comments.
The meeting between the two comes in the context in which Gigi Becali claimed the other day that Viorel Hrebenciuc asked him, around the same time when he was meeting with Tudose, for support for supporting George Simion, so that the AUR leader could reach the 2nd round of the presidential elections .
“I have not discussed this with anyone. I didn’t talk about the party. Whoever imagines that votes can be taken elsewhere has no idea what’s going on in this world. And anyway I see that in all the polls Simion is in 2nd place, do you think we talked to all the people to declare that they vote for Simion? All these accusations of PNL and USR are from the Let’s see how we explain that we are losing the elections”, said Mihai Tudose to journalists from G4Media.
Becali will run for the parliamentary elections on the AUR lists.

He remained the only true friend of all, he is a great character. I told him: “But after that in the second round, don’t attack Simion. Let’s let them fight, let’s see who is stronger”. Viorel Hrebenciuc was considered the gray eminence of the PSD for almost two decades, “the stringer” being the party’s chief negotiator. His relationship with Gigi Becali is an old one, being the one who pushed him from behind to form PNG.
Former PSD leader Viorel Hrebenciuc was definitively sentenced on September 14, 2021 by the Bucharest Court of Appeal, to three years in prison with execution in the Giga TV license file. In the same case, the former mayor of Piatra Neamţ Gheorghe Ştefan – sentenced to 4 years and 6 months in prison, the former head of CNA Laura Georgescu – 4 years and 4 months in prison and Narcisa Iorga, former member of CNA, sentenced to 3 years of suspended prison and 120 days of community service at ADP Sector 2 or sector 6. Hrebenciuc was behind bars for only one year.
