The film “FJORD”, the newest feature film signed by Cristian Mungiu, gathered 43,440 spectators at a preview organized simultaneously on 315 screens, in 96 cinemas in 53 cities in Romania.
The event took place on June 13, before the official launch of the production, and comes after the international success of the film, marked by winning the second Palme d’Or in the director’s career.
According to the organizers, the interest of the public was exceptional. In the first 24 hours after the tickets went on sale, tens of thousands of reservations were registered, and almost half of the rooms involved in the event were sold out.
“Thank you very much for your interest in the preview screening of FJORD. Contrary to some opinions, know that we make films for the audience and the greatest joy is seeing the theaters full and knowing that the audience has something to talk about after leaving the theater“, Cristian Mungiu said.
16,000 spectators in Bucharest
In the Capital, approximately 16,000 people saw the film during the preview. The screenings took place both in multiplexes and in cinemas dedicated to auteur films, such as Cinema Elvire Popesco, Cinema Muzeul țăranului, Cinema Union, Cinemateca Eforie and Cinema Europa.
The film was also shown in the Cinema City, Cineplexx, Happy Cinema, Inspire, Cityplex, Palace, Cinema One, Marcom and RADEF networks, but also in independent cinemas in several cities of the country.
The representatives of some cinema chains stated that the first screenings sold out quickly, and it was necessary to increase the number of theaters.
“We will accompany the film in as many places as possible”
The director announced that the film team intends to organize screenings both in Romania and abroad and to even reach localities that currently do not have cinema halls.
“We are doing everything in our power so that, with the premiere, FJORD reaches as many places as possible in the country, including those that do not have a cinema hall for now. We will accompany the film both in the country and abroad in as many screenings as possible, because your opinions matter and because we want to cultivate dialogue, debate and not monologue and radical beliefs“, declared Mungiu.
The producers announced that they are working both on the distribution of the film in cinemas in Romania, and on the organization of itinerant screenings in cities that do not have cinema halls.
Starting from August, “FJORD” will also have premieres in most European countries, and Cristian Mungiu will participate in some of them.
