According to Agerpres, the Boeing Starliner space capsule, with its first crew of astronauts, is to leave the International Space Station (ISS) and begin its return journey to Earth on June 22.
The announcement was made on Friday, June 14, 2024, by the American space agency NASA. The quoted source says the new deadline provides more time to complete planning for this “complicated process”.
Starliner astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams arrived aboard the ISS on June 6.
“The additional time allows the team to complete departure planning and operations while the spacecraft remains cleared for emergency crew return scenarios within flight rules.”NASA and Boeing stated in a statement.
The two target a departure no earlier than June 22, leaving open the possibility of further extensions to the time period spent by the first astronaut crew of the Boeing Starliner space capsule on the ISS.
The Boeing-built CST-100 Starliner capsule was originally supposed to detach from the ISS last week and return to Earth after launching on its first flight with two NASA astronauts on June 5.
