The Ministry of Education has announced a unique and welcome decision for the high school students: in 2025 there will be a special national evaluation session, dedicated to the eighth-grade Olympic students, who for reasons related to international competitions will not be able to take the high school entrance exams in the normal June session.
When the exam takes place
The new session will take place in period July 2-4, 2025, Immediately after the completion of the classic tests, and is addressed to those who will represent Romania at international Olympics or other important school competitions that overlap with the national assessment calendar.
There will probably be dozens of children, said Sorin Ion, Secretary of State in the Ministry of Education.
The Secretary of State made the announcement at a press conference. He says that, every year, there are students who cannot support the national evaluation at the usual data, because it represents Romania at international Olympics or participates in the official training stages. So far, there was no clear variant that allows them to take the exam without being disadvantaged.
The organization of this special session in 2025 comes as a natural gesture to recognize the performances of these students and their effort to excel in areas of academic excellence.
A gesture of normality
Although it is a small number of students, the measure is welcome. In previous years, some of these children had either to choose between the Olympics and the National Assessment, or to enter into special appeals and procedures, without guarantees.
By this decision, the ministry transmits a clear signal: performance deserves respect, and students who bring medals Romania should not be able to lose important exams.
How will it work?
- The special session will be organized centralized by the ministry, with evidence equivalent to those in the usual session.
- It will be intended exclusively for students who can prove that they have been objectively impossible to participate in the first session, for reasons related to international school competitions.
- The final list of the participants will be validated based on the supporting documents.
“It is a small change, but with a big impact for students who are dedicated to performance,” says the official of the Ministry of Education.
In a period when the educational system often seems disconnected by reality, this decision shows that it can be adapted when needed. And, above all, that students who work hard should not be penalized, but supported.
