Nicolae Ciucă does not have the necessary seniority in the party, according to the PNL Statute, to be able to run in the presidential elections. Consequently, the Central Executive Office of the PNL voted for a derogation

“On Sunday we have the National Council, with 1,400 delegates, in which we vote on a definitive candidacy, voted by BPN, a charge of Mr. Ciucă with this candidacy. He joined the party in October 2020 and to run for the presidency it is necessary, according to the Statute PNL, for five years. His lordship lacked a few weeks to register in the electoral race, I think about three weeks, not even a month. However, a derogation was needed, unanimously voted by the Central Executive Office , made up of 57 people, for his lordship to register in the electoral race“, said Rareş Bogdan, first vice-president of the PNL at TVR info.

He added that he hopes that this will eliminate some of the speculations regarding Nicolae Ciucă’s candidacy.
