The President of the Romanian Senate, Nicolae Ciucă, assures the Romanians that “no one is bombing us” and that “Romania is safe”, arguing that our military monitors all possible threats.

“When discussing any kind of threat to our security, the most important thing we can do is to treat the situation calmly. I know that any news about the fall of drones on Romanian territory can cause anxiety and hasty reactions. But without proper assessment of the situation and knowledge of the geopolitical and military context, any incisive statements from political leaders would do more harm than good“, Nicolae Ciucă wrote on Facebook on Thursday.
The Senate President’s statement comes after the Ministry of National Defense confirmed that debris from a drone was found in Tulcea County, after Russia resumed attacks against Ukraine near the border with Romania.
“No one is bombing us. The only objects that can reach our earth are only scraps of equipment, which have already been destroyed. Our military experts are monitoring the situation and doing everything to preserve the safety of Romanians”, assured Ciucă.
“This is illegal”
Regarding the idea of destroying drones approaching our country from Ukraine, Ciucă explained:
“We cannot shoot down missiles or drones from Ukrainian airspace, no matter how close they fly to Romania. This is illegal. If we look into our airspace, we see that we have nothing to shoot at. In order to change this state of affairs, Romania should negotiate with the NATO leadership and with Ukraine the terms of using our air defense systems in Ukrainian airspace. The implementation of such a plan would involve a lot of steps”.
“Romania is safe”
Nicolae Ciucă repeated the statements made by General Gheorghiţă Vlad, the Chief of the Defense Staff, who explained, a few hours before, that we have a very good surveillance system.
“Romania is safe. We are in continuous communication and coordination with the allies, especially with the countries of the Eastern Flank of NATO. Our military monitors all possible threats. While others use their energy and time to invent and throw false accusations on social media, our military work professionally and without fuss on the internet. Let us be grateful to them“, concluded Ciucă.
We remind you that NATO announced on Thursday that it has no indications that the remains of Russian drones found in Romania are evidence of an intentional attack on NATO territory, but it warned about “irresponsible and potentially dangerous” actions.
