“Nicu Covaci lives”. What Cristi Gram, the Phoenix guitarist, says after the news that the musician died

From the early hours of the morning of Friday, June 7, news started circulating on social networks that the great musician Nicu Covaci had died. Fortunately, the news was not confirmed, Nicu Covaci being in a stable condition.

“Nicu Covaci is alive, he is being treated at the hospital. It's mind-boggling that such fake news has spread online”Cristi Gram, the guitarist of the Phoenix band, said exclusively for “Adevărul”.

And those from Phoenix Transsylvania denied, in a post on Facebook, the news of the death of the great Nicu Covaci: “Nicu Covaci is in a
steady state, as we have known for some time now. There are people who love and respect him and don't deserve to go through the moods and emotions generated by a few in need of attention. So, we are re-inviting you to take the correct information from this page!”

“Adevărul” spoke about the unfounded information of the death of Nicu Covaci and Josef Kappl Musician of the first magnitude, former member of the band Phoenix for over two decades and a heavy rocker.

“It is disrespectful and common sense that unfounded information circulated on the Internet”stated Josef Kappl for “The Truth”.

Nicu Covaci, aged 76, underwent brain surgery on March 22, 2024, at the County Hospital in Timisoara. The surgery was a success.

Nicu Covaci, the leader of the band Phoenix felt sick in the months before the operation, he complained of dizziness, that he could no longer stand, that his face was numb and that his vision was affected.

A year ago, on March 29, 2023, Nicu Covaci was supposed to give a concert in a club in Arad, but he was hurt while signing autographs at the Arta cinema, after the movie “Phoenix: The Story”. The guitarist arrived at the hospital, where he underwent several tests.

The artist has been living in the West for 47 years, most of that time in Germany, but now he resides in Spain. However, he made the decision to leave himself in the hands of Romanian doctors.

The diagnosis made by the doctors was “expansive intracranial process”, the operation being an emergency. The surgical intervention, led by the team of renowned neurosurgeon Horia Pleș, lasted approximately six hours, during which a brain tumor was removed.
