President Nicușor Dan meets on Monday morning, at 8:30, with representatives of the main trade union confederations in Romania, in discussions about the tax measures negotiated by the pro-European parties. The meeting takes place at the Cotroceni Palace and aims to identify equitable solutions in the context of current economic pressures.

The leaders of the following organizations participate in the discussions: the National Trade Union Confederation “Cartel Alfa”, the National Trade Union Block, CNSLR – Brotherhood, the Meridian Confederation and the Confederation of Democratic Unions in Romania (CSDR), reports News.ro.

Business environmental consultations and the call of the unions

This meeting comes after, at the end of May, Nicușor Dan had consultations with representatives of the business environment in Romania, on the topic of the macroeconomic situation and the need to reduce the budget deficit. According to the Presidential Administration, at that meeting the Concordia Employers, the Foreign Investors Council, the Romanian Business Leaders Foundation, the American Chamber of Commerce, the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture in Romania, the Romanian-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry, as well as the National Little and Medium Enterprise Council.

But the trade union leaders criticized that these consultations were held without a real participation of civil society and social partners. Last week, Cartel Alfa organized a protest in Cotroceni, accusing the lack of transparency of political decision makers and the lack of authentic social dialogue.

Trade unionists demand an active role of the presidency

Cartel Alfa representatives have requested a fair fiscal reform that does not affect workers, stopping austerity measures, reducing subsidies and eliminating privileges granted to parties and parliamentarians. It also requires a resizing “correct“Of the public administration “Not by cutting but by investments in human resources“And an active presidency,” Cwill mediate social conflicts and guarantee social justice”.

It is unacceptable that the country’s fiscal policy is dictated only by the business environment and lobby groups exclusively in the existing profit. Romania needs a mediator president, not a spectator who tacitly validates unfair policies. Instead of a fiscal reform built together with the social partners, the governors support measures that will further impoverish the workers, without reaching the real causes of the budget imbalances“, Cartel Alfa said.

The trade unionists have emphasized the need for a real and inclusive social dialogue, with the participation of all the actors involved: unions, patrony and civil society.
