Nicusor Dan does not believe that the parties will support him in the elections, but he believes in the support of the people

The mayor of the capital, Nicușor Dan, pointed out that despite a lack of support from the parties, he enjoys sufficient support from the voters. The mayor released more data from a previous poll that formed the basis of his announcement of his intention to enter the 2025 presidential race.

“I don’t think this kind of ad is good for the image”, said Nicușor Dan to Digi24, regarding the announcement made by Crin Antonescu, also pointing out that Romania is already in a complicated situation after the cancellation of the elections

According to the leader of the Capital City Hall, the video in which PSD admits that it redirected votes to George Simion is not good either.

“Sufficient support” for the presidential candidacy

Regarding the rejection of a possible support for his candidacy by the head of the PNL, Ilie Bolojan, Nicușor Dan explained that, in his opinion, the liberal leader “realizes that Romania, as a whole, needs stability, and that this type of changing your mind is not good for the image”.

“It’s an absolutely natural statement,” the capital’s mayor also said.

Nicusor Dan explained at the same time: “The probability is small that these parties or one of these parties will support me. But I go on. As we have seen, party sympathizers turn to the candidates they want,” the local leader also said, pointing out that he has a compatibility with the right-wing electorate.

“It’s not about that, it’s about people’s support. At the moment there is enough support”, Nicușor Dan also emphasized.

Asked about his legitimacy at the head of the PMB, in case he loses the presidential race, the mayor claimed that he is “less important to discuss people and people’s careers at the moment. We live in an exceptional moment” and that people gave a signal that there is something fundamental to change in Romania.

Nicușor Dan stated, however, that he decided to have a discussion with the USR candidate, Elena Lasconi, in the next period. Asked if he sees her quitting, he emphasized that it is the decision of the head of USR, which he will respect.

What are the chances of announced candidates

He also showed that he does not see a second round without extremists, but it depends on whether Călin Georgescu will run again.

At the time of the announcement of his intention to run, Nicușor Dan argued that his decision comes on the basis of data on trust in Romania. The mayor of the capital has now specified that in the voting intention, he and Crin Antonescu, the self-suspended candidate of the governing coalition, are placed after Clin Georgescu, who has over 40% of the votes. According to the data provided, Crin Antonescu and Nicușor Dan have between 15% and 25%.

Moreover, according to the data, Călin Georgescu is also “the politician in whom Romanians have the most confidence, somewhere between 36-38%”. He is followed, with 26%, by George Simion, the head of the extremist party AUR, in third place is Ilie Bolojan, and in fourth place is Nicușor Dan.

According to the mayor, explanations must be provided, even by the president regarding the cancellation of the elections. “The ECHR can find that the elections were canceled illegally, which would be very serious,” the capital’s mayor also said.
