President Nicușor Dan welcomed the decision of the member states of the European Union to open accession negotiations with the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine, describing the moment as one “of reference” for the expansion process.
“A reference day for the history of the expansion of the European Union! The 27 member states agreed to start accession negotiations with the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine, by opening the first cluster dedicated to fundamental values.
Romania has supported the neighboring states since the beginning of this process and will continue to stand by them with expertise and multisectoral support throughout their European journey”, sent the head of state, in a public message posted on Facebook and X.
The reaction comes after Ursula von der Leyen, the president of the European Commission, announced on Friday, June 12, that the 27 member states of the European Union agreed to open the first group of accession negotiations for Ukraine and Moldova, thus marking a new important step in the process of expanding the EU bloc.
