The general mayor of the capital, Nicușor Dan, said in an interview with Digi24 that he does not want a debate with the PNL candidate, Sebastian Burduja, because he wants an alliance with the PNL in the General Council, in case he wins a new mandate.
“The beginning is very good, the liberal electorate voted for me in 2020, I would like them to vote for me now as well, especially from the perspective of voting in a single round, when a vote for the candidate on the 4th-5th places is a wasted vote. I think, for many who vote PNL, the choice is between me and Cristian Popescu Piedone(…) I don't want to have a debate with Sebastian Burduja, because in a debate things are said. Someone attacks you, you have to answer him (…) “I wouldn't want to attack him. I want a majority with PNL in the Council, if I win the Mayor's Office“, said Nicușor Dan in an interview with Digi24.
Regarding the criticism that Sebastian Burduja brings to him, Nicușor Dan stated that “everyone campaigns as they see fit.”
Asked if he is bothered, the mayor of the capital answered no, citing that “we are in an election campaign”such as “everything is permitted”.
Regarding the votes shared with the liberal counter-candidate, Nicușor Dan explained that they share the same right-wing electorate, which supported him to win the mandate in 2020, with the support of PNL, USR and PMP.
Sebastian Burduja, the PNL candidate for the Capital City Hall, challenged Nicușor Dan to a debate on projects. During a meeting on the set of a television, Burduja gave the current mayor his book, entitled “Plan for Bucharest”, and told him that he is needed back in civil society.
According to a survey carried out by INSCOP on behalf of News.ro and published on April 30, Nicuşor Dan is in first place in the voting intentions of the citizens of Bucharest for the post of general mayor, with 38.5% of the options, followed by Cristian Popescu Piedone ( PUSL) – 27.4%, Gabriela Firea (PSD) – 21.4%, Sebastian Burduja (PNL) – 10.1% and Mihai Enache (AUR) – 2.4%.
Another survey carried out by Avangarde at the command of the PSD shows that Gabriela Firea would get 24% of the votes, being only a few percent behind Nicușor Dan (31%), while the PUSL candidate, Cristian Popescu Piedone has only 20% of the voting preferences of Bucharest residents and is on a downward trend.
