Romania returned with an impressive record of the International International Olympiad (International Earth Science Olympiad – Ieso), held on August 7-16, at Jining, the People’s Republic of China.

The four students who represented our country obtained nine medals: four on individual and five tests on optional tests, held in international teams, according to an announcement of the Ministry of Education and Research.

Preparation of the lot
The Romanian group was coordinated by Prof. Diaconu Roxana, from the National College “Gheorghe Lazăr” Bucharest, and by Prof. Dr. Petre Bogdan, school inspector within the Ilfov County School Inspectorate.
The training of the lot was carried out with the support of some teachers and researchers from the University of Bucharest – Faculty of Geography and the Faculty of Geology and Geophysics, from the Geological Institute of Romania, from the Astronomical Observatory “Admiral Vasile Urseanu” and from the Autonomous Administration of the Air Traffic Services in Romania – Romatsa The School Inspectorate of the Municipality of Bucharest and of the School Inspector Bogdan Petre from the Ilfov County School Inspectorate.
Within the Ministry of Education and Research, the International Olympiad is coordinated by the inspector Mihaela Florina Alexandru.
A prestigious competition
Located at the eighteenth edition, the International Olympiad “Earth Sciences” (Iesa) brings together elite students from all over the world, passionate about geology, geography, astronomy and environmental sciences.
The competition was held on August 7-16, 2025, in Jining, the People’s Republic of China. The Ministry of Education and Research has sent greetings to all those who contributed to this performance.
