Thailand, an exotic destination that can only be visited with the June 1, 2024 bulletin Collage
The measure adopted on Tuesday, May 28, by the Thai government, aims to increase tourism and includes several countries, given the dependence of the national economy on this sector of activity. It is the second country, after Turkey, that has facilitated the access of Romanian tourists as well, waiving a series of tourist visas.
According to the Bangkok Post, the decision includes both visa-free schemes and longer stays, especially for certain categories, such as students, digital nomads, remote workers, freelancers, etc., but also those who want to learn Muay Thai and cuisine thai. They will be able to benefit from the Visa “Destination Thailand“. After graduation, foreign students will be able to stay in the country for one more year, during which they are allowed to find work. In Thailand the number of foreign students is 40,000.
Until now, Romanians passionate about foreign tourism traveled to Thailand with a visa online or obtained directly from the airport, valid for 15 days. Visitors' stays will be extended, from June 1, to 60 days.
According to Thai officials, visitors who want to work and/or visit tourist destinations will be able to obtain five-year visas valid for stays of up to 180 days, which can be extended by another 180 days.
Romania is among the approximately 40 countries eligible for visa-free entry.
Some travel tips for a dream vacation in Thailand
Thailand is well known for its gorgeous beaches, majestic limestone cliffs, friendly locals and imposing temples. In recent years, it is increasingly found among the preferences of Romanians eager for vacations in exotic lands.
That's why we offer you some tips, collected from Romanian tourists in love with the “Land of Smiles”.
So the most expensive part of a holiday in Thailand is usually the transport – the plane tickets. The more stops, the cheaper the trip can be, but it also depends a lot on where exactly these stops are made. For example, a stopover in Kuala Lumpur or Istanbul is more profitable than one in Doha, say Romanian tourists. However, in order to find the most advantageous fares, it is advisable to use as many flight search engines as possible, then check also on the websites of the airline companies, where it is possible to have lower prices.
The cheapest part of a holiday in Thailand is food, especially if you opt for the “night-market” – the famous evening markets, where prices are low. It's not a problem if you don't like the local food, because the gastronomy in Thailand is extremely varied with countless options from European, American, Australian cuisine, etc.
Clothing and souvenirs are also cheap. Therefore, tourists are advised not to leave with bulky luggage, the best option being hand luggage. In Thailand, as in other Asian countries, there is a culture of price negotiation. Negotiable on clothes as well as tours and transport (not all types).
As for accommodation, as everywhere in the world, prices vary depending on the period, conditions, location, etc. For example, you can find accommodation in a room at a three-star resort for less than 60 euros /night, with breakfast included, and at a five-star resort, the rate can be doubled.
Don't miss massages in Thailand! Prices start from 5 – 7 euros/hour. Hydration is very important given the extreme temperatures. Liquids, too, are affordable and especially delicious ones that contain fruit, which should also not be missed.
Keep in mind when planning a holiday in Thailand that the dry season starts in November and ends in May, while the wet season lasts from June – July and ends in October – November, but there are also differences between the country's regions which is good to keep in mind.
And one more aspect: the busiest and most expensive period is in the months of January – February when the Russians celebrate Christmas and New Year in the old style on the beach, but also the period of the Chinese New Year, when the country is stormed by the Chinese.
