The Oravița-Anina railway, located in the heart of Romania, is truly impressive and can be considered a true miracle of railway engineering. It has an impressive history, having been inaugurated on December 15, 1863, and is more than just a railway route.

Those who have traveled this route at least once, can say that it is a real masterpiece, which is worth seeing for any person who is passionate about travel and adventure.

The railway, unique worldwide, stretches for a distance of 33.4 kilometers and crosses no less than 14 tunnels and 10 viaducts. This is the first mountain railway in Romania and is located at a difference in level of 338 meters between the stations Oravița (at 218 meters altitude) and Anina (at 558 meters altitude).

Those who traveled at least once by train on the Oravița-Anina railway had a unique experience, taken as if from stories. The route is full of tight curves, steep slopes, and the natural setting offers extremely spectacular panoramas. A pair of trains run on the Oravița – Anina route and back, and seat reservation is mandatory! Travel permits can be purchased within the limits of available seats, 30 days in advance, ONLINE, from any ticket office with electronic issuance located in CFR Călători stations and travel agencies and from ticket machines. On the day of the train departure, tickets can be purchased both from the Oraviţa station and from the train staff at the same price (including reserved seats), within the limit of available seats“, notes CFR Călători.
