More than 10,000 candidates registered to take the Residency entrance exam on Sunday, November 17. Almost 4,000 graduates of the faculties of medicine, dentistry and pharmacy will compete at the “Carol Davila” University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Bucharest.

The Residency Competition organized by the Ministry of Health will take place in the university centers of Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Craiova, Iasi, Târgu-Mureş and Timisoara. It will gather at the start 10,575 candidates (more than in 2023 when there were 10,194 candidates n. ed.) who will contest their chances for occupying the 4,961 seats (in 2023 there were 4,925 seats n. ed.) and 237 positions (In 2023 there were 365 positions n.ed.).
“For all the graduates of the universities of medicine and pharmacy in the country, the Residency entrance exam represents the main gateway to the multiple medical specialties, but also an extremely difficult test that will be reflected in the performances that each of them obtained in the years of study and obviously by the quantity and quality of the knowledge they acquired. That is why I wish full success to all the candidates and I am convinced that, again this year, the graduates of our University will pass this important exam in their professional career with flying colours, in the largest possible number, but also with high averages“, said Viorel Jinga, rector of the “Carol Davila” University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Bucharest, according to Agerpres.
In the university center of Bucharest, at the “Carol Davila” University of Medicine and Pharmacy, the most candidates, 3,993, over 37% of the total number of candidates enrolled in the entire country, take the Residency entrance exam. Of these, 2,405 registered for medicine, 929 for dentistry and 659 for pharmacy.
At the national level, 6,243 candidates registered for the 4,082 places put up for competition in the field of medicine, for the 534 places allocated to the field of dental medicine 2,360 candidates, while for the 345 places in the field of pharmacy there were registered 1,972 competitors.
In a top 5 of the number of places put up for competition, by specialty, in the field of medicine are: family medicine – 555 places (643 places / year 2023), anesthesia and intensive therapy – 205 places, pediatrics – 168 places, cardiology – 157 places and general surgery – 145.
At the opposite pole are: sports medicine – 4 places, medical expertise of working capacity – 6, pediatric neurology – 9, pediatric cardiology – 11 and nuclear medicine – 15.
The contest will last four hours
The competition will take place in the form of a grid test, with 200 questions for each field, lasting four hours. After the expiration of the time allocated to the contest and a 15-minute break, the proofreading will begin in the halls, and candidates will have 24 hours to file appeals. They can concern the contest questions, the correction of papers or the organization of the contest.
Appeals will be answered within 48 hours of their submission. The minimum passing score represents 60% of the maximum score obtained for the 200 questions for each field, of which 50 are simple complement and 150 are multiple complement.
Candidates will be able to enter the competition hall where they were assigned starting at 8:30 a.m., in order to start the competition at 10:00 a.m.
The occupation of the places in the medical specialties will be done in the order of the promotion score obtained, within the limits of the published places, creating a single classification for each field.
The display of the results will be done only after signing the order of the Ministry of Health confirming the results.
