Over 70 cases of West Nile virus infection in the country in less than four months. Nine people died

From the beginning of the West Nile virus infection surveillance period – June 3 – until Thursday, 73 cases of West Nile virus infection were registered, of which 65 were confirmed and eight were probable.

According to the National Institute of Public Health (INSP), nine deaths were recorded as a result of West Nile virus infection, notes Agerpres.

There is one case each registered in Botoşani, Sălaj and Vrancea counties and three cases each in Suceava county and Bucharest.

The age category in which the most cases of the disease were reported

The most cases of illness – 23 – were registered in the 70-79 age group and 19 in people aged between 60 and 69, indicated the National Institute of Public Health.

INSP continues the recommendations for the population: to avoid exposure to mosquitoes by wearing long-sleeved clothing and long pants, to use mosquito repellent chemicals, to prevent insects from entering the house through protective nets on the windows, to ensure the drying of puddles around the household, such as and to remove containers of standing water and household waste.
