Patriarch Daniel: We call for Christian solidarity with the victims, the socially vulnerable victims and the bereaved families

The Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church, PF Daniel, appeals for solidarity with the people seriously affected by the floods. Believers from all over the country are urged to support the efforts of the authorities and help those in need by contributing financially or with non-perishable food. Patriarch Daniel also urges the clergy, in the message sent, to contribute to the support effort.

Following the massive floods in Galati, Argeș and Vaslui countiesbut also from other areas of the country, we call for Christian solidarity with the victims, the socially vulnerable victims and the bereaved families. The Romanian Patriarchate joins central and county institutions and authorities in the effort to support our fellow citizens who are going through moments of great suffering. Clergy and the faithful of all dioceses are urged to actively contribute to helping them, both through prayer and through the collection of financial aid and non-perishable food”patriarch Daniel transmitted.

The Patriarch also sent his condolences to the four families who lost their relatives due to the floods. “At the same time, we send a message of compassion to the bereaved families with whom we are with, and we pray to the Lord Jesus Christ to rest in peace those who died due to the floods, and to offer comfort and spiritual strength to those close to them”. it is also shown in the sent message.

Flooding caused by heavy rainfall since the afternoon of Friday, September 13, 2024 has left thousands stranded. Galati County is the worst affected. Four people died here, and 5,000 households were affected. Almost 300 people were evacuated with the help of rescuers.

On Saturday, September 14, 2024, the head of the Government, Marcel Ciolacu, accompanied by several ministers from his cabinet, arrived in the localities where the flood devastated, to assess the situation and to decide how they can urgently help the victims. It was decided that four camps for homeless people would be erected in Galati county, two camps each to be also located in Vaslui and Iași counties. Each camp has a capacity of 200 places.
