Paul Di’Anno, the former lead singer of Iron Maiden, has died at the age of 66. The artist has been facing health problems for years

Former Iron Maiden frontman Paul Di’Anno has died aged 66, his family has announced. Born on May 17, 1958, Di’Anno played on albums by Iron Maiden and the Killers. Although he had health problems, he continued to perform, having performed over 100 shows as of 2023.

Paul Andrews, better known by his stage name Di’Anno, died at his home in Salisbury, Wiltshire. He was the lead singer for the band’s two self-titled albums Iron Maiden in 1980 and Killers in 1981, before being replaced by current vocalist Bruce Dickinson, according to the Daily Mail.

“On behalf of his family, Conquest Music is saddened to confirm the passing of Paul Andrews, known professionally as Paul Di’Anno. Paul died at his home in Salisbury aged 66,” it is shown in a statement.

Born in Chingford, East London, on 17 May 1958, Paul rose to prominence as the lead singer of the British heavy metal band Iron Maiden between 1978 and 1981.

Since leaving Iron Maiden, Paul Di’Anno has had a long and tumultuous career recording with Battlezone and the Killers, as well as numerous solo releases and guest appearances.

Despite severe health problems in recent years, which have restricted him to performing from a wheelchair, Paul has continued to entertain fans around the world, performing over 100 shows since 2023.

Formed in 1975 in East London, Iron Maiden has sold more than 110 million records over the course of 17 studio albums.

They became one of the biggest and most influential British rock bands of all time.

The current members of Iron Maiden released a statement which read: “We are all deeply saddened to learn of Paul Di’Anno’s passing earlier today.

“Paul’s contribution to Iron Maiden was immense and helped set us on the path we’ve traveled as a band for almost five decades (…) On behalf of the band, Rod and Andy, and the entire Iron Maiden team, we extend our deepest condolences to Paul’s family and close friends. Rest in peace, Paul.”
