PENNY Romania: responsibility towards employees and the community

Since 2015, PENNY has been the neighbor of hundreds of thousands of Romanians. With the first PENNY store opened in Ploiesti, then hundreds of other stores opened all over the country, it is more than a company, it is part of the community, of the lives of the people who choose to go shopping here. It is, at the same time, a secure workplace for the team that grows year by year. 7,300 colleagues continue the PENNY story in Romania today.

In the competitive world of food retail, PENNY Romania’s success is largely determined by the relationship based on trust that it builds with employees and the communities where the company is present, either through the network of 379 stores, or through the four logistics centers or offices in the headquarters.

For years, PENNY has been following the impact it has in Romania and aims to develop even more for Romanians, in a sustainable way. With initiatives and long-term projects, changes for the better are strategically thought out in three important directions for the company, for the communities in which it is involved and, finally, for the good of the whole country: Sustainable assortment; Climate Energy and Resources; Employees and society.

Today we are talking about the third direction, dedicated to Employees and society. At PENNY, every action is focused on people, social responsibility and active involvement in community issues. That is why the initiatives around employees and society reflect the values and commitment towards colleagues and the community in general, with the aim of creating a sustainable impact in Romanian society.

Big things and changes are done as a team. Through strategic partnerships with non-governmental organizations to bring positive changes in the lives of people from underprivileged communities, through active involvement in education, social initiatives, larger or smaller projects that solve needs, and through open and continuous communication with people. At PENNY, a company that works with, for and because of people, communication with employees, customers and partners is vital.

PENNY’s commitment goes beyond the boundaries of the main business and is oriented towards the economic and social development of the communities of which it is a part. Through partnerships with non-governmental organizations, the company invests in projects that support the education, health and development of children and young people. Through concrete actions and active collaboration, it is important that each of us make sustainability a widely adopted principle with responsible choices.

But what is sustainability? This word we keep hearing for years.

In 2023, PENNY decided to show what sustainability means for the company and the team in Romania.

By attacking issues of public interest, such as reducing food waste, energy efficiency, the need and demand for local products, the company implements concrete solutions to bring about change in these directions. All together with the Romanian team, present throughout the country, together with reliable and long-term partners and, last but not least, together with the hundreds of thousands of customers who return to PENNY every day.

Together with the 7,300 colleagues, trusted partners, customers, and through development initiatives for each team member, equal opportunities for every employee, through education and social responsibility projects addressed to smaller or larger communities, through approaches with objectives ambitious, developed at the national level, PENNY is constantly involved and takes important steps in the direction of a better, cleaner, more developed Romania in terms of education and care for people.

The relationship between the PENNY company and employees, customers, partners is sustainable and represents a strong basis for the goals and initiatives we achieve. The future is made today, together with the team, partners, customers and communities in which we exist.
