Performance for Romania at the International Physics Olympiad 2025: a gold medal, four silver and two special prizes

The Olympic group of Romania obtained exceptional results at the International Physics Olympiad 2025 (IPHO), held on July 17–25 in Paris, France. The Romanian students returned home with a gold medal, four silver medals and two special prizes.

Ionuț Gabriel Stanstudent at the International Theoretical High School of Informatics Bucharest, obtained the gold medal, but also two special distinctions: the prize for best in the experimental test and the prize for the best result in the European Union (Parabolic Flight Prize). The announcement was made by the Ministry of Education.

Beside him, four colleagues from the same high school won silver medals:

This year’s competition brought together 406 students from 87 countries, and Romania is among the founding countries of the prestigious Olympics, whose first edition took place in 1967.

“The team of Romania, made up of 5 students, had leaders on Mrs. Delia Davidescu, Professor at the International Theoretical High School of Informatics (ICHB) Bucharest, and on Mr. Sebastian Popescuconf. Univ. Dr. at the Faculty of Physics of the “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University of Iași “, mentions the Ministry of Education.

This competition marks the conclusion of the series of the four international physics Olympics to which Romania participated in the school year 2024-2025.

The Ministry of Education congratulated the performances of the participating students, teachers, parents and all those who contributed to this performance.

Ionuț Gabriel Stan, Mihai Bogdan Ciocârlan, Rareş Felix Tudose and Mendel Emanuel Mendelsohn participated in May and the Asian Olympiad of Physics 2025, held in Saudi Arabia. Then, the Romanian Olympians succeeded in obtaining seven medals – two gold, two silver and three bronze, as well as a mention of honor.
