The Oscar-nominated actor Eric Roberts visited the construction site of the future “Prof. Dr. Alexandru Obregia” Pediatric Psychiatry Clinic in Bucharest, a major project dedicated to the mental health of children and adolescents in Romania.
The visit took place during a trip to Bucharest, the actor being accompanied by Codin Maticiuc, the founder of the initiative “Public Hospitals from Private Money”, and by Eduard Irimia, co-founder and president of I Success Awards. The moment marks the actor’s direct involvement in supporting the project carried out by the Metropolis Foundation.
According to the organizers, the presence of Eric Roberts represents a signal of international support for one of the most important pediatric psychiatry projects in Romania.
The actor is also associated with global initiatives dedicated to autism awareness, and his visit to Bucharest was linked to the participation in the event I Success Special Edition – Red Carpet Experience, a platform that promotes projects with social impact.
The new Pediatric Psychiatry Clinic is being built within the “Prof. Dr. Alexandru Obregia” Hospital and will have an area of approximately 3,900 square meters, structured on several levels.

a separate ward for teenagers with addictions
The total investment is estimated at 16.5 million euros, and so far approximately 6 million euros have been raised from donations and sponsorships.
The representatives of the project draw attention to the increase in the number of children and adolescents who end up in the pediatric psychiatry system, with diagnoses such as severe depression, behavioral disorders, autism or addictions.
The current Obregia clinic treats over 5,700 patients annually, exceeding the capacity of the existing infrastructure. In this context, suicide is mentioned as the second cause of mortality among adolescents.
The representatives of the Metropolis Foundation claim that the involvement of international personalities contributes to increasing the visibility of the project.
“The presence of Eric Roberts on our construction site is not only a gesture of solidarity – it is proof that projects with soul cross borders”, said Codin Maticiuc.
The project can be supported through donations, SMS or the redirection of part of the tax, the campaign aiming at the completion of the construction and equipping of the clinic.
In the last decade, the Metropolis Foundation has developed projects in dozens of hospitals in Romania, with total investments exceeding 8 million euros in the public medical infrastructure. The new clinic in Obregia is considered the organization’s most ambitious project to date.
