And the best example is the “Leon Dănăilă” High School in Darabani, the northernmost city of Romania. This educational unit has been built from scratch, with European funds, and is currently considered one of the most modern schools in Moldova, if not from all over the country. It has top features and facilities to which many schoolchildren, including from the big cities of Romania, can barely dream. This top educational conditions are also a way to reward the students from Darabani, who have performance for almost two decades, year by year, and reach the national phases of the school Olympics at most of the study objects.

Darabani is a small town in Botosani that most Romanians probably have not even heard. He has only 11,000 inhabitants and after 1990 he was one of the places in Romania where no one would have wanted to live. The locality was dominated by gray blocks, with bumps drowned by soot, leaving directly through the walls, unemployment, poverty and lack of perspective.

In the last decade, Darabani has experienced one of the most spectacular developments among small cities in Romania. Currently, it is a small, but flirty urban settlement, being considered the city with the most beautiful green spaces in Moldova. The roads have been rehabilitated, the locals have access to water, sewerage and many other facilities of the modern world. The slaughterhouses, processors and farmers also appeared, the area having a great agricultural potential. In the context of discussions on the restoration of post-Belic Ukraine (in the event of conflict extinction), Däbani could be transformed into a land on land, that is, an important economic hub on the border with Ukraine.
It was developed due to the European funds and also with this money a new building was made within the “Leon Dănăilă” General School. The work for school started in 2023 and were completed this summer. The school has been used since September 8. For its construction, over 2.5 million euros were spent. “You say you got in Germany or England. That I worked in both countries. When you see that school, only on the outside, you say you got in another country. Honestly.”confesses the father of a student who came to take his child from school.

The new school body has a modern architecture, different from that of the Romanian schools in which they learned generations of children. It is bright, with huge windows, generous corridors and full of green, natural plants. Even in the main hall you realize that the walls are actually covered, landscape, with natural, natural muscles.

The whole school is surrounded by green spaces with banks, playgrounds and sports for children, including a modern basketball court, adapted to the gymnasium students. “It is one of the most important investments in the city of Darabani. Education is a priority for us and we wanted this new school, it was a priority on the investment list.”says Alin Gârbaci, the mayor of Darabani.

The new school body impresses visitors. Large halls, full of light, with walls decorated with motivational quotes, spectacular images or teaching materials, ensures a light flow of students to classes. Each classroom has a metaphorical name.

For example, the History Cabinet is called the “time mirror” and the “Euclid” mathematics. When they make music, the children go to the “Zen” hall and at the “beauty of nature” they do biology hours. Each classroom is customized with a spectacular wallpaper and collages, leading to a special environment for students. The furniture is new, the individual banks and there are almost all the necessary equipment. Each classroom has video projectors, computers, smart boards and other computer systems according to the subject.

The school, on two levels, ground floor and 1st floor, was equipped with four laboratories: physics, chemistry, biology and IT. Each has all the necessary didactic materials, from classic molds and sheets to digital technology adapted to the respective matter. The IT laboratory is equipped with top technology. This school has a garden directly on the roof of the school. Currently, the work on the exterior scale for access to the roof is completed. There you can do many observation and experiment activities, especially for biology and physics.

Many children of the Dărăbanena school come from the rural area, that is, from the neighboring villages. The “Leon Dănăilă” Gymnasium School in Darabani is one of the best performing secondary schools in the educational field. For two decades, annually, he has been sending at the national Olympic level to different study objects. In history, a Dărăbănean student managed to obtain the first place at the National History Olympiad. We are not talking about national school competitions, with different themes, won by Dărăbăneni students.

“I think the results of the last 20 years also justified us to hope for such a beautiful school. We have every year, at least 10 qualified children in the national phases of the school Olympics on different objects.”states the school principal. “We are proud to have very good students.
