The head and candidate of the USR, Elena Lasconi, have again submitted her presidential candidacy, despite the fact that some USR members support, assumed or not, Nicușor Dan, who can also win the vote of the political formation.

In fact, even on the day of submission of the candidacy, USR Vice -President Allen Coliban said on his Facebook page that Elena Lasconi should withdraw her candidacy. Then a landmark, a broken party from the USR, asked for his withdrawal by the party.

Training

Elena Lasconi graduated from the high school at the National Pedagogical College “Sabin Drăgoi” in Deva in 1990 and is a Licensed economist of ASE Bucharest in the economic profile the tourism and trade management.

In 1999, he graduated from the BBC School of Television, and in 2007 he became an evaluator of the professional skills, certified by the National Center for the Training and Improvement of Coaches (CNFPA). From 2019 to 2020, Lasconi attended courses in Brussels and Romania, in which he has prepared his knowledge for the position of mayor.

For 25 years his career has focused on journalism, as an employee of ProTV news, where he was a reporter, moderator, producer, but also war correspondent, trainer or sales manager. Previously he worked on the radio, being a producer and programs director, Hațeg, Romania, on Radio T5 ABC.

Political career

He entered the USR in 2018, and then won the first term at the City Hall of Campulung in Argeș County, in 2020, in front of an opponent proposed by PSD, Liviu Ţâroiu. In 2024 he obtained the second term with a percentage of 69.58%.

He came to the front of the party despite a scandal that broke out with the campaign for last year’s MEPs, which caused his colleagues to take her out of the first place of the USR list. His statement, according to which, voted “yes” at the referendum for the traditional family, then brought him personal problems, entering a public scandal with his daughter.

In June 2024, after the resignation of Cătălin Drulă from the position of president of the USR, Lasconi was elected president of the party with a score of 68.14%, obtaining 7,701 out of the 11,333 votes.

Last year’s candidacy for the presidential elections also brought him a series of criticisms regarding the statements regarding the activity of a president and the way he would manage the external situation in the Cotroceni chair.

If the campaign for MEPs was missing in the campaign, six months later became a spearhead in the party, leading the formation to the parliamentary poll from the position of candidate entered the second round. After the weak result from the MEP, in the ADU alliance, 8.53 on June 9, the score reached in the parliamentary was 12.25 for the Senate and 12.40 for the Chamber of Deputies.

What wealth does it have

The only one that belongs to them completely was bought in 2005 in Argeș.

The situation of the inheritors is repeated in the case of buildings. Lasconi passed in the declaration of wealth three apartments, one of 65 sqm., Another 70 square meters. and one of 58 sqm. In two of them he owns a share and were inherited in 2009 with his husband.

Lasconi also owns a dwelling house of 98 square meters, bought in Argeș and an Opel brand manufactured in 2007.

According to the declaration of wealth, he won in 2024 for the position of mayor of Campulung 141,425 lei. However, the party leader has debts. It has to give about 388,000 lei back to Banca Transilvania for two credits, chamber in 2026, respectively 2037.

Chances in the presidential race

If last year he managed to tick the second round, the public polls for the future election place on the head of the USR after Nicușor Dan.

At the poll on November 24, he obtained the vote of 1,772,500 Romanians, ranking second, with a score of 19.17%, at a difference of almost four percent compared to Călin Georgescu, ranked first.
