Lavinia Șandru is one of the older characters in Romanian politics, being a former deputy to the Democratic Party (PD) during the term of president of Traian Basescu.

The candidacy of Lavinia Șandru was announced in January, being validated by the leadership. Șandru then explained that he decided to run, emphasizing his concerns about Romania’s demography. “I chose to apply because, for 35 years, the Romanians are less and less. As a mother, as a man, I think it is unacceptable. How many candidates and how many presidents did you hear with this phenomenon? I repeat, it is unacceptable,” He supported the candidate.
She believes that Romania needs a solid demographic strategy, and this subject should be a priority in the supreme function in the state.
Șandru has gone through several parties over the years and has been married to Darius Valcov, former Minister of Finance sentenced to prison for money laundering and influence trafficking.
Training
Lavinia Șandru finished the Academy of Theater Art in Târgu Mureş, and then, in 2004, he finished the master at the University of Bucharest, the Faculty of Political Science.
He also performed an internship in the European Parliament, in the Commission of Culture, Youth, Mass and Sport Information.
Between 2001-2004 he was an image director at SC Aldaco Film SRL, and then held the position of executive director, SC Star Media & Film SRL.
Political career
Lavinia Șandru was deputy PD from 2004 to 2008, during the mandate of Traian Basescu. The first position in a party had it between 2001-2002, being executive secretary of the Image Department of the Democratic Party (PD), then, in 2002, he became executive secretary of the Department of International Relations. In 2004, he obtained the management of the Branch of the Democrat Party Tg. Mureş. However, the ascension in the party would not last long.
She was part of the “Amazon” Guard of Basescu. Șandru supported her, as the former president admitted, to be the first on the list for Parliament in Mureș County. Then, after Cozmin Gușă, he tried a party against the old leaders was removed from the formation in 2005.
In fact, Basescu also sent Lavinia Șandru to the “Belt of Politics”, the expression remaining famous. Then, Șandru went through formations such as the National Initiative Party or the National Union for the Progress of Romania, later reaching the party founded by Dan Voiculescu.

Chances in the presidential race
Șandru is not mentioned with chances in the opinion polls published so far. In fact, she also applied for the PSD Sibiu list for Senate last year, being the first on the list, but failed to get a post. The social-democrats have included in recent years members of the lists for the Parliament, the formation having a subgroup in the Chamber of Deputies.
