Predoiu criticizes Fritz for calling Trump a “lame duck.” What he asks Bolojan

Cătălin Predoiu criticizes Dominic Fritz in a long text published on Facebook, after the USR leader “ironically” called Trump “lame duck”, after the catastrophe suffered by the Republicans in the mid-term elections. The former minister says that the statement is rude and accuses him of taking over the political language of American Democrats in the dispute with the US president. The liberal also asks Ilie Bolojan to clarify what “common vision on foreign policy and the Strategic Partnership with the USA can be built with the USR”. Predoiu does not see with good eyes even bringing some reformists into the party, “names like Pâslaru and Gheorghiu”.

“Mr. Fritz, Chairman of the 9% Party, calls Mr. Trump, the President of the USA, ‘lame duck’, ironic of course, certainly rude. Mr. Fritz takes the political language of the American Democrats in their dispute with President Trump, repeating a mistake that other Romanian politicians also make: they import into Romania the internal political “wars” from other countries, confuse their own ideological sympathies with the national interest and end up positioning themselves against some strategic objectives of their own country”, writes Predoiu in the post.

The former Secretary of the Interior states that only someone who does not know the constitutional mechanisms of the USA and the American political realities “or you want in any way to look like a “stupid duck” make such a statement.”

“Such a statement is not made by a party leader from a partner country. It is not just an affront to a person, it is an affront to the USA, because the US President, no matter who he is, represents the USA. Mr. Fritz thus continues an embarrassing series of rude expressions towards the US President, implicitly towards the USA, by some former Romanian government officials”, continues the liberal.

According to Predoiu, Fritz has the right to political opinions, “but it is one thing to analyze the political developments in Washington and another to treat with superficiality and impoliteness the position of the president of Romania’s main strategic partner.

“It is on the border of irresponsibility in relation to one’s own national interests”

“It is all the more reprehensible to launch such irony from a country in a military conflict zone, with a complicated security context. It borders on irresponsibility in relation to its own national interests. Of course, Romania will find the best ways to materialize its country’s interests in any conjuncture of US domestic politics. Expressions like Mr. Fritz’s do not help at all,” adds the former minister.

Next, Cătălin Predoiu asks Ilie Bolojan, the president of the PNL, “to clarify what common vision on foreign policy and the Strategic Partnership with the USA can be built together with the USR. The differences in approach do not disappear through an electoral alliance. And foreign policy cannot become a field of improvisations dictated by the competition between parties.

The liberal criticizes the PNL’s approach to the USR and especially the preparation of a political alliance with the formation led by Dominic Fritz.

He also does not see the “infusion” of “reformist” personnel brought by Bolojan into the party, pointing to “names like Pâslaru and Gheorghiu”.

“USR, led by Mr. Fritz, is the party with which the PNL, led by Mr. President Bolojan, is preparing to form a political and electoral alliance; in fact, USR would be the party in which the PNL is already ideologically “melting” and through the “infusion” of “reformist” personnel, with names like Pâslaru and Gheorghiu, progressive, as early as 2025, scheduled. So, what will be the position of the PNL, beyond the declarations, after the eventual formation of an alliance with USR?!”, concludes Predoiu with a rhetorical question.
