On Tuesday, October 15, President Klaus Iohannis appointed presidential adviser Sergiu Nistor as ambassador of Romania to Latvia. The announcement was made by the Presidential Administration.

Klaus Iohannis signed, on Tuesday, a decree for the release from office of presidential adviser Sergiu Nistor from the Department of Culture, Cults and National Minorities, a position he held since January 5, 2015. Later, the president issued a decree regarding his accreditation in as ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of Romania in the Republic of Latvia.
Sergiu Nistor, aged 64, is a graduate of the “Ion Mincu” University of Architecture and Urbanism, where he is currently a professor at the Department of History and Theory of Architecture and Heritage Conservation. He is a doctor in Architecture, specializing in the restoration of historical monuments and the author of numerous projects, documentations, studies, researches, articles, conferences and books in this field. He is certified as an expert in the field of restoration of historical monuments, according to presidency.ro.
From 2006 to 2014, he was the president of ICOMOS Romania, a world expert organization in the field of historical monuments recognized by UNESCO.
He held various positions in the specialized central public administration: general director of Heritage (Ministry of Culture, 1998-2000), adviser to the Minister of Culture (2005), commissioner of the Romanian Government for the Sibiu CCE 2007 Program (2005-2008), general secretary of CNR UNESCO (2008-2009), secretary of state (Ministry of Culture, 2012).
He was the drafter of the legislation in the field of cultural heritage protection in Romania, the website of the presidency also mentions. He represented Romania at meetings dedicated to culture and cultural heritage organized by UNESCO and the Council of Europe. He was awarded by France with the Order of Arts and Letters in the rank of Knight (2003) and by Romania with the Order of Cultural Merit in the rank of Officer (2004).
