PSD leader, Sorin Grindeanu: “On Sunday we will decide whether we will vote on the budget or not and whether we will submit amendments”

Sorin Grindeanu, the leader of the social democrats, announces that the PSD will decide on Sunday its position regarding the state budget and possible amendments, stressing that they will not be politically negotiated, but will be voted on based on “good faith” of parliamentarians.

“On Sunday, as I said, we will decide our actions for next week, when normally we will have the debates in Parliament and we will have the final vote on the budget. On Sunday we will decide whether we will vote on the budget or not and whether we will table new amendments as a group” Grindeanu announced on Wednesday, March 11, according to News.ro.

The PSD president stated that he already has a personal opinion regarding the vote, but he will not announce it before the internal discussions: “It’s too early. Things can still happen until Sunday.”

Amendments without political negotiations

Asked if the PSD will negotiate the support of the amendments with other parties, including from the Opposition, the social-democratic leader categorically rejected this option. Sorin Grindeanu explained that the amendments in question concern sensitive areas and cannot be the subject of political negotiations.

“We come with amendments that can be voted on, or not, without negotiations. I mean, I don’t want to negotiate an increase in allowances for children with disabilities, or the elimination of CASS for mothers, or the elimination of CASS for war veterans, or for monastic staff, or for political prisoners. Shall I negotiate with what? These are things that can be voted on, or not. If we submit this amendment, it will be without negotiations. I will appeal to the right faith of parliamentariansGrindeanu also stated, stating that there will be no political negotiations.

What does it say about the risk of a political crisis?

Asked if a possible decision by the PSD not to remain in the coalition could trigger a political crisis, the party leader avoided alarmist scenarios: “Come on, we’ve got a long way to go.

We remind you that Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan announced on Wednesday, March 11, that the Ministry of Finance published the draft budget for 2026 and specified that the Government proposes that it be approved by the end of the week and sent to the Parliament for adoption.
