PSD Senator Daniel Zamfir was disturbed by the fact that the Minister of Foreign Affairs mandated a representative to sign the Mercosur Agreement, although the subject was not discussed in the Coalition.
Daniel Zamfir, the PSD senator who was involved in supporting the simple AUR motion against the Minister of the Environment Diana Buzoianu now wants a motion against the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Oana Țoiu. Zamfir reproaches him for signing the Mercosur Agreement, given that this topic was not discussed at all in the Coalition.
USR TOOK GOVERNMENT OVER THE INDIVIDUAL.
The agreement for MERCOSUR was not discussed in the Coalition. Unacceptable! It was not even discussed in the Government. Absolutely unacceptable! Minister Țoiu mandates – in her personal name – the representative of Romania to the EU to vote for this agreement. So, how did a government minister allow himself to engage Romania in an extremely sensitive subject, in his own name? Why is Prime Minister Bolojan silent? What about the Coalition Agreement? I hope the users don’t have the nerve to ask for support for Ms. Țoiu in the upcoming motion…”, wrote Zamfir on his Facebook page.
EU states approved the controversial EU-Mercosur trade agreement on Friday. This a trade agreement between the European Union and four Mercosur countries: Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay, which together represent a population of about 295 million and the fifth largest GDP in the world.
The agreement will phase out tariffs on more than 90 percent of bilateral trade. Negotiations began in 1999, with an initial agreement in 2019, and a political agreement was only reached in December 2024.
